I realize the phenomenon of price inflation on the Vega cards isn't directly tied to competition in the gaming space, thanks to the miners, but my understanding is the 10-series cards are also good for that?
The reason why AMD is preferred is because of their high compute power and lower prices they normally have. The 1070ti might make AMD drop the msrp price down some but the inflation caused by the shortages will keep everything up.
GTX 1070 does a pretty good job at it and has one of the best power consumption ratio for its mining rate.
I don't really understand the point of the GTX 1070ti- its going to be roughly the same performance of the GTX 1080, but cheaper... so why?
msi gaming x 1070ti is 20bucks cheaper than msi gaming 1080, what's the point of this release again?
£20-30 difference here in the UK for... I knew this would be a issue, what's the point exactly?..
You had a GPU almost as good as Vega 56 for £100 less with the 1070 and you had a GPU only £50 more expensive that wiped the floor with it.
Now you have a GPU that makes no sense... When you can just get a 1080 instead.
“Sliding in between the much-lauded GeForce GTX 1080 and 1070 GPUs, the new GeForce GTX 1070Ti will be available worldwide on November 2, with pre-orders starting today just in time for the hottest games this holiday season, with a suggested retail price of $449/£419. Featuring our award-winning Pascal GPU architecture, the GeForce GTX 1070Ti is packed with 2,432 cores and 8 GB of memory running at 8Gbps for a total bandwidth of 256GB/s. It delivers double the performance of the legendary GeForce GTX 970. We designed the GeForce GTX 1070Ti to be an overclocking monster with plenty of headroom for gamers to crank up the clock speeds. And our partners have built cards with thermals and power supplies that allow gamers to push performance way past stock specifications.”
Taken straight from Nvidia themselves. This thing is going to be an overclocking BEAST. I wouldn't be surprised if it surpasses the GTX 1080 through faster clocks a lone. Sad day for any GTX 1080 owners.
When people are ready to consider purchasing a high tier GPU, $30 indeed makes little difference. Obviously this is Nvidia were talking about.

Why would it be a sad day for 1080 owners? 1080 been available for well over a year, 1070ti is almost the same price but it's still a cut down version of the same chip, sure you can OC 1070ti but you can also 1080 as well, highly doubt oc'd 1070ti is going to come out on top

I'm pretty it has been confirmed you can't overclock it.

Nope according to davillain everyone who bought a GTX 1080 are sad and depressed now. must be that us 1070 owners are brink of suicide now LOL

Vega 56's memory and GPU can be overclock to Vega 64 AC level.

GTX 1080 has memory bandwidth advantage over GTX 1070 Ti which is important for 4K.

It is actually not. The 1080 is more powerful and for the prices the 1070 Ti and the 1080 are going for...the 1070 Ti is almost pointless. The 1080 has 10Gbps vs 8Gbps VRAM for the 1070/Ti
The price actually fits well in my country, just in between 1080 and 1070, and from this review you can see it fits just in the middle of both in performance.
I guess it fits for those with the tight budget.
I disagree. The cheapest 1070 Ti you can get right now in the US is for $470 for less than $30 more you can get a 1080. When you are building a PC even with a budget in mind and you are spending $400 plus on a GPU generally you are going to spend $1k+ easily. So if you are going to spend $470 for a 1070 Ti and it is only about 6% increase for a 1080, it is totally worth it. Now if you are talking about $30 for a $1k build then it is even bigger. This is pretty pointless to me.

Again, I said the price fits well in my country, in terms of performance it sits just between 1070 and 1080, we don't have bitcoin mining influence on the prices here.
1070ti's are just 1080's that didn't quite make the cut
with cheaper memory slapped on it
