Anyone know what happened to it? It just seemed to die off for some reason. By this I mean GOOD rap died off. Well, I know it is out there but why would the general population that listens to rap think Lil' Wayne is the BEST RAPPER EVAR! when he has lyrics like "so high I could eat a start". No mainstream artist seem to put any meaning their songs anymore. I guess people who have good songs won't ever be that popular, Lupe for example. IMO, the only good and popular rapper out there is Eminem, but only some of his songs. I miss the classics like 2pac, Biggie, NWA, Ghetto Boys, and LL Cool J. I guess the golden age of rap has come and gone.

Oh BTW please don't come in here and start a flame war against rap music. I listen to a wide range of music, mainly Rock and Heavy Metal.

Well, I'm no expert at these things....But I'm guessing that it became more mainstream among diverse audiences and that may have watered it down for specific tastes.

Just look at JUSTIN BEAVER! The kid thinks he's a rapper/pop artist, doesn't he? He's appealin' to the pre-teens! We got pre-teen rap! Yay.

Well...like you said, Eminem is still pretty good. I mean, Relapse was a good comeback from Encore and Eminem Show. Other than that, I agree with Lethalhazard: it got watered down when it became too popular with the mainstream.

I stick to the 90's rap. Been listening to Mobb Deep's The Infamous alot lately. But mainstream rap is pretty bad. People wake up every morning thinking the are good and put out one song that flood radio stations and kill ears.

Who needs new rap? Just go back and listen to old Biggie! That's where it's at.

It's not hard to destroy a genre founded on boasting. At some point someone had to go overboard. that said, I enjoy a very VERY small select amount of rap songs and artists.

Yup that is exactly it you see it in every thread like this. What happen to *insert whatever here*

"Yeah *whatever* ain't as good like it use to be"

"*whatever* is lame i remember when I use to *watch/play/read/listen* to whatever it was great but now it sucks."

New stuff seem to suck cause people are just being nostalgic.

There is still good rap out there its just different from the pass as expected.

Perhaps not all of it, like I said, I enjoy some. Plenty of research was done. I'd reference a few names, but they're usually not what 'rap snobs' would appreciate.

I got a wide range in rap. "New" artist Wale, Kid cudi, B.O.B. pretty mainstream but I think they got some really good tracks.

Other rappers I think is good Mos def, Common, Rhymefest, Outkast.

I still like westcoast rap I enjoy rappers with that 90's west coast style, Nipsey Hussle and The Game who is actually my favorite rapper.

Thers alot of other rappers in my collection and no souja boy is a clown.

What? Nobody likes DRAKE??? I hate a lot of what is on the radio now, but Drake is honestly a great rapper (even if Wayne was the one who jumpstarted him). Ludacris and others have fallen off lately, but stupid southern rappers are killing it (in a bad way) right now (Waka Flocka Flame??? Pure vomit).

In the music industry your image is sold before your music. Rappers can't be real anymore because they are practically forced to make all that bubble gum rap in order to sell music. Every rapper does this same ish cause' really thats what sells. At one point all I was hearing was synth heavy beats with dudes shouting a bunch of BS into a mic. Then it was auto tune, even Kanye jumped on that bandwagon. Rappers will do what everybody else is doing because it SELLS. Its cool that rappers like B.o.B are getting big but even he has sold out a little since his Mixtape days. A promise - You'll never see the real gritty hardcore street rap in the mainstream again!!

Old kanye is very good music, his first and second album are great, graduation was good, but 808's was just weird. I wouldnt say it was complete crap as it was a concept album but i really dont care for it.

I used to be all about Rap in the 90's and early 2000's. I can't even listen to "artists" like Lil Wayne or T-Pain anymore. I've completely switched musical preferences. I can still listen to classic Tupac, Biggie, Run DMC, Public Enemy, etc, but now I only listen to rock and metal

It's sad man, it really is. I used to be a really, really big fan. Not only that, I produced, MCed, went to lots of shows, helped keep the local scenes going wherever I lived... Stuff like Biggie, Wu-Tang, 2Pac, Dre, Outkast, Pharcyde, the Roots, Common, Tribe Called Quest, NWA, Dre, Snoop, etc etc etc were classics. Rap has not been the same since Pac and Big died, and it hasn't even been good for years now, apart from Jay-Z, Nas, and a few others. I can't stand the current commercial stuff like Lil Wayne and T-Pain. It's just created this whole other dynamic of rap music where 2 people can be "rap music fans", but one likes Apathy, Aesop Rock, MF Doom, Brother Ali, etc., and the other one likes T-Pain, Clipse, Lady Gaga and they will never meet in the middle. Honestly I think it's junk now, it's turned me off of rap entirely, and to say I was a "big fan" would be a tremendous understatement. Now I listen to more rock, and keep my reggae going, among others. In terms of rap I still listen to the same stuff I did 10 years ago.

I stopped following Rap like two years back because it just started to suck.
