There are people alive in 2010 that were born in the 1800s. That alone is suprising but then i thought of something else. It means that its highly possible these people saw someone born in the 1700s. So someone alive in 2010 have seen someone from the 1700s. Coupled with the amount of history it just really shocked me as things such as Slavery, Cival War, Industrial Revolution etc. really werent that long ago. Reading it from textbooks, i always imagined them as far off events.

Now my question is, would you like to live past 100 years old? Dont relate it to just being old, im talking the big 1 00. I personally would love to. Sure id be helpless but i'd really like to stand between 2 eras.

I don't think I would like to go over 85... and thats already a stretch. After that I won't have the energy or strength to yell at all those damn kids to get off my lawn... so what would be the point? :|

Definetly not. I would not want to live for 100 years. Give me 60-70 years and I am fine

I have thought that certain historical events were only a few lifetimes ago, yeah... though I doubt many people from the 1700's lived for over a hundred years.

I don't think I'd want to live that long unless I was very happy with my life the entire time and always had a reason to want to keep on trucking.

There are 111 year old people who were born in the 1800s, anybody older than 111 was born in the 1800s also.

1800's does not mean 1800 exactly. People who are 111 years old would have been born in 1899 thus making them born in the 1800s though just barely

You would think most everyone would want to live as much as possible. Sure, being older than you are now will have some detriments, such as low energy and strength. However, we have no clue what is in store for us in terms of medical and mechanical technologies in the future. There may be a non-harmful steroid that gives us 4x as much physical performance than what we are used to. People like me would want to live it out as long as possible to see how far we have experienced from birth to now and to give our blessings to those that were given the baton to continue the human legacy.

theology nerd moment: This reminds me of something I noticed about the genealogies in Genesis some years ago. Due to the fact that I'm a "theology nerd" I decided to graph the genealogies of Genesis. In doing this I came to realize that if one were to take the ages literally, Noah could have known Methuselah and Methuselah could have known Noah. This would have been over a span of about 2000 years. The great flood would also have come the same year as Methuselah death (did the flood kill him, was the flood delayed until his death, or it was by chance?). Not until sometime later did I come to realized that Methuselah's name literally means, "when he dies/died, it shall be sent/has been sent." ...and now you know what I do for "fun."

I'd only want to live past 100 if I got a genetic modification at a young age to be immortal. Or at least extend my lifespan by a couple hundred years.

Yeah I'd probably want to live to be past 100, but only if I've lived a meaningful life up til then. I wouldn't want to live the next 80 years or so in a pointless "go nowhere" life. Either that or die an honorable death, and not one worthy of a TV movie, I mean full motion picture Movie of the Year award quality -- in 3D. Heh.

This thread is great . On topic, I would like to make 70, I'll probably make 50. I have this sneaking feeling though that I'm going to die young. Luckily, I suck with interpreting feelings so I could live past 80 :P. Most of my relatives lived extremely full lives.

Wow....that link blew my mind. I even saw a photograph of a Revolutionary War veteran. I didnt even think any made it. Check the link out guys.

Everything is so.....recent. It just amazes me how so much has happened in such little time.

Being born in 1990, i have my fingers crossed ill make it to 2100s.

I doubt there is anyone alive today with any significant recollection of life in the 1800's nor of anyone born in the century prior to that.
