Would you be willing to sacrifice yourself for your children or wife?

I was thinking about this earlier - that is, about a scenario in which the only way to assure my children's or wife's survival is to sacrifice myself. I don't know whether I'd be willing to do it or not because even though their my family, the prospect of death is too daunting. I just don't know. How about you?

I'm not a parent nor married so I can't really say. I can't imagine myself ever being willing to sacrifice myself for a wife though.

Personally, I'd want perfect clones of myself instead of regular children.

It seems to me if you're not willing to sacrifice yourself for your child you've probably failed as a parent, either because they're just that terrible of a person or that you're just that selfish (which could very well cause the former). Granted I suppose letting your child die is a failure in parenthood by itself. Wife is harder to answer though. Its possible she'd be willing to sacrifice herself for you as well. You have to kind of hope that's the case if you're willing to do so for her, actually. That said, I imagine I'd gravitate toward going for the sacrifice initially. The way I see we all have convictions that give us reasons for the things we do and I'm hard pressed to find better convictions than loved ones.Ace6301

I considered that a possibility, but most people aren't gay, so I thought it was safe to assume she's a girl.

My best friend's dad died in a car accident a couple of months ago, his dad and his brother where on the back seat of the car, when the driver got a heart attack and crossed over in to the other lane and hit a truck, his father, as soon as he saw the truck, jumped on his son, and saved his life with his own body.

That is not something you think about in a situation like that, its a natural response to protect someone you love.

Children, yes of course. Wifey, depends upon stage of life and which of us parents is most important to the health and welfare of the family...also I am assuming that it is a forced choice and one is guaranteed to live and one dies.

I would, as I wouldn't be able to handle the guilt if I didn't.
