I'm curious if folks have had experiences with words they were familiar with from reading but didn't know how to pronounce. I was somewhere around 20 before I made the realization that the spoken ad written word "epitome" were the same word. I also had a well-read friend who was in his mid-20s who pronounced "gnarled" as "guh-narled". Anyone else want to confess their wordy shortcomings?xaosAre you saying epitome is pronounce epi-tome and not eh-pit-oh-me (but saying it fast)?

When I would read the word, I'd think "epi-tome" yeah, and one day BAM epiphany; I immediately tried to remember if I had ever said "epi-tome" in conversation but didn't remember if I had or not.

A segue refers to a rhetorical device of "smoothly" moving from one topic to another, generally based around finding a sentence or two that somehow bridges the two, rather than abruptly changing subjects. The vehicle is, but the transition is not.[QUOTE="thriteenthmonke"][QUOTE="cornholio157"]
