Morality comes into huge effect, also the illegal trafficking and kidnapping of woman.Jazz_Fan
Morality is subjective and if you approach prostitution from a logical standpoint there's nothing harmful about it beyond disease transmission. It's a purely victimless crime.
As for sex trafficking, kidnapping, and disease transmission: all of those things could be nearly eliminated with government oversight, and that's only possible if the government legalizes it and recognizes it as a valid industry. Think about it, if prostitution became legal the government could require that all prostitutes have a license to "practice their trade". This would requre identification and oversight by law enforcement, and those two things together would wipe out the use of sex slaves except on the black market. However, since prostitution would now be legal there would be no reason for men to resort to black market prostitution, and thus there would be no incentive for illegal human trafficking. As for diseases, part of the licensing requirement could be that each woman is required to get screened for STDs every so often. If an STD is found then she loses her license to practice. Laws are already in place today that make it a criminal offense for a prostitute to continue soliciting business if she has an STD, so the issue of the intervening time inbetween disease screenings would already be taken care of.
On top of all those benefits, legalizing prostitution would also bring in more tax revenue to the government and help to relieve overcrowding in our prisons (which results in further benefits to society).
In contrast, there's really no benefit that I can see to keeping prostitution outlawed.
