I really don't get it. Why do a lot of people love thunderstorms? I also heard of people actually doing things outside (such as dancing) during thunderstorms too. I seriously don't understand how people enjoy thunderstorms. I've always been too scared of them.
I love them because there is nothing in the world that can equal the power of a thunderstorm. For me its the shock and awe factor. Plus i love getting pictures of lightning strikes. and they are calming and relaxing expecially in the summer. and for some reason they help me sleep better when they wake the rest of my family up
We rarely get them here in Seattle (although it rains enough ....) so it's a cool thing when we do get them. Also they're not as bad as they get out midwest near Oklahoma and Kansas, those are just scary.
To me the sound of falling rain is one of the most beautiful and soothing/relaxing things in the world, and a dark sky actually puts me on a very good mood, rain or no rain, so that's why I love them. :)

You should move out to the Seattle area if you don't live here already. I agree with you, rain owns and I don't think I would ever move willingly from WA.

I'm with you TC. I really don't see the appeal of thunderstorms. I guess it all stems from me hatred of rain.....ever since it cancelled my cricket final:(

Perfect condition for a epic battle, course, the chances seeing that in my lifetime, I think to be quite small.
I like how a thunder can illuminate things like a lightbulb can illuminate a room, with that white and lightly blueish light. I also find the sound very warm.
I can't explain why I love thunderstorms...I guess for me it's just the awesome power of nature and I find the lightning rather beautiful (might change my mind if I ever get struck though, lol). As for thunder, I just think it sounds awesome.
I guess it just creates an awesome atmosphere inside your house. Just hearing all the rain and thunder and knowing that you are safe and dry inside your home.
Everyone loves a good thunderstorm, its like everyone likes experiencing the beauty of this planet, weather they are too pre occupied to do it, its kinda hard wired into our minds, it is our home afterall
I don't like the damage a thunderstorm causes, but when those incredibly loud cracks of thunder go off and all my cats go and hide underneath the bed I can't help but laugh. Nothing else makes them go crazy like that.
I like thunderstorms at night time. I guess I just grew up with them - like the sound, the rain, the thunder, the flashes. Just cool. Sort of threatening but sort of strangely calming, too.

Yeah I agree with you that it rains quite a bit here (I'm in Silverdale). Although mostly just overcast/drizzle. Also different places have different types of rain, for instance we normally get like a weak and light version of rainfall and rarely recieve thunderstorms. This is in contrast to somewhere like Texas where there are occasional to often thunderstorms where the rain is "heavy" and you can really smell the aroma in the air. But I love Washington for its cold rainy nights when you can just curl up and cuddle, it's good for that.
