Why do people ask for thumbs up on youtube?

How come on youtube videos, almost always there are people asking for thumbs up for stupid things like..

"Thumbs up if your the 301st viewer!"

"Thumbs up if RWJ sent you here!"

"Thumbs up for a free ipad at my channel!"

Who gives a flying shoe if RWJ sent you? No one cares.

Do people do this stuff because they desperately need attention since no one else cares about them? Do their lives improve by having their name on the highest rated comments section? Why?

They want to feel liked. They're probably not very popular in person.

Oh and I thumb them down and flag them for spam. Same with the (what they think are smart) wiseass comments about the people who thumbed the video down.

This, it is by far the most annoying thing on Youtube.

Well to me it is, like, i'm checking a video, example a castlevania track. Lots of good comments that are a nice read then suddenly "durrr death has 20 accounts on youtube" there's also the twilight conversation in almost every videos of Castlevania i'm watching, which is another thing!

Last but not least the whole Justin Bieber trend in many comments. I don't like the kid but jeese people need to give him a break.

The same reason some people want responses on topics, acknowledgement.
