I know im like a year late, but just 2 days ago I finished watching Dexter and I honestly couldn't see why was the ending hated so much. Sure its sad as **** because Debra died, you could even say that she died twice if you see being brain dead as a worse fate than just dying instantly. But besides that, I think it's fitting. In the end you could totally see how devastated and unhappy Dexter was about being a lumberjack in Oregon. The only thing that pissed me off was the lack of closure for the other characters, but overall I think it was a pretty good ending to a great series.

I'm sorry but talking about a series' ending obviously implies spoilers.

Obviously...which is why we use SPOILER TAGS and the handy feature GS provides us for blacking out text.

The feature is broken and it blocks all the text. I cannot understand why did you enter a thread with "SERIES IM WATCHING NAME" and "ENDING" on its title if you didnt want to find any spoilers in it.

Because I enjoy seeing what other people think. I also expect people who have been in this forum for a long time to remember how to create threads that do include spoilers so as to NOT spoil anything.

It doesn't block all of the text.

The series became a meandering pointless excursion into boredom and lifelessness. Finale was it's disgraceful final wheeze

I didn't hate the ending, I hated the entire last season. And frankly, the series was already in decline the previous season. By the time the last episode aired, I didn't care enough to dislike it, I was just glad it was over.

Basically the last season was a wasted opportunity to try to at least regain some level of dignity.

Honestly speaking Hannibal is what Dexter shouldve been. I hate it when a show needs to fill the emptiness with a character explaining things directly to its audience, yeah it was funny at 1st but 8 seasons of it was just way too much.

It came three seasons to late is why it gets the hate. Seasons 3, 5, and 6 were pointless. They dragged it out too long and Dexter lost his edge.

I never finished the last season because it was just bad, apparently. It didn't help that I was reading episode reviews before watching it and people's comments about how bad it was. I just don't have the slightest interest to even watch the last few episodes.

Yeah that special effect was pretty shitty. But consider Harrison was played by twins with literally no prior acting experience.

I haven't watched the show, but it kinda looks to me like it's the kind of series that should end with the protagonist dying.

I mean, compare and contrast with Breaking Bad.

The show went from an 8.0 to a 5.5 because of the ending alone for me.

Response full of spoilers: Mostly because it was a complete cop-out. Dexter whines on and on about giving his son a better life, then leaves him in the hands of a serial killer that, honestly, Dexter barely even knows. Not to mention, the entire build-up of the show was Dexter one day having to answer his demons, and yet that never happens because he just drives his boat into a hurricane and somehow becomes a lumberjack...(?) It just didn't make sense, and it was a whimper of an ending for what it could (should) have been. Even with how stagnant that show had been for seasons, they could have saved it so much by developing Dexter in a meaningful way at the end of the show.

Nope.

Deb dies in the most stupid way, Hannah ends up with the kid in some fucking country, and Dexter survives a drive across the ocean through the middle of a hurricane to grow a beard and cut down trees. He should have been caught or Deb should have killed him, or damn he could have just driven the boat into the storm and disappeared. The appeal of Dexter the entire series was the thought that he could in no way get away with the things he'd done, eventually it would catch up to him. Except it doesn't, hurricanes and lumberjacks and all that shit. This is a show for me where the ending forever ruined the entire series, because what's the point...I understand it's not my show to make or my story to tell, but come on, all of the complex scenarios they created over the years were wasted in one fell swoop. Super asinine.
