Nowhere. My beliefs would probably be classified as moderate to conservative, but I don't call myself that because I believe such division will ultimately cause the destruction of the United States.

I went with other because no political orientation matches my beliefs enough for me to pick definitively.

I didn't say varied either because some of my beliefs are not supported by any party.

I choose my stance on the issues on a case by case basis. I don't identify and consequently subject myself to the blind ideals of a particular party or ideal, and neither should any of you.

I'm pretty conservative. I don't really like calling myself right wing or a Republican or anything since that has such negative connotations. I also don't like to be lumped in with the religious right and the obnoxious Republican talk show guys who just like to hear themselves talk. I'm quite conservative, but I'm open-minded. I have a couple more liberal beliefs, but not many. I'm willing to listen to anyone and I'm willing to change my mind if an argument is compelling enough.

Well the sad part is most people's beliefs are owned by a specific party. The party makes the decisions on an issue and the individual automatically conforms to those decisions. I think "identifying" yourself with a specific party is the first step to total complacency and dependency

May I ask if you maintain a philosophy that you employ? Could such a thinking be the same as a political party, in that it inhibits consideration of alternate ideas?

Is the process of how you judge each individual case, or does the collection of views garnered from those judgements come into similar grounds with any particular political "ideology?" That is usually how I find where I am on the map.

I stand up straight (I don't lean left or right). Economically I like a free market with slight intervention to keep anti-competitive practices in check (I can't believe libertarians want to do away with all anti-trust laws) and regulate industries where a truly competitive environment is counterproductive or unrealistic, Socially, I guess I'm pretty liberal, but far left liberals take some issues way too far in my opinion.

Well.... yes but the philosophy is my own. Over the last couple summers I've devoured pretty much every philosophy imaginable. I've picked and chosen what makes sense, and rejected the bull****. Once again, I make my decisions based on individual issues, rather than buying into a school of thought or ideal wholesale

I'd say that I'm a liberal. And in all honesty, extremes on both sides annoy me quite a bit. Both come across as...less than ideal to hold office.

it would be ignorant for one not to identify with a party. If you dont believe in gay marriage, want relaxed gun laws, and believe in tax breaks and strong fiscal responsibility are you not supposed to recongnize that you lean towards conservatism? of course there are people who believe everything their party believes in( I dont know if 'most' would be the correct wording) but thats not the point, if you go by things "case by case" there will still be a pattern between a leftist ideology and a right one.

But there's NOT. What you'll see, especially between the two main parties in the USA is that the parties have no consistency between their support/opposition of issues. Take the Republicans. You would think being a Republican means fiscal conservatism and expanding individual rights, correct? Well the Republicans got us into two VERY costly wars and have done a solid job minimizing our rights when it suits their ends (Patriot Act, being pro-life, etc.) And the Democrats are no better. You're stating that if I have a unifying philosophy then it will most likely coincide with a single parties ideals, but this is patently false because parties have no consistent philosophy to begin with. So identifying under a single party is, in effect, letting the party choose stances on issues for you. And worshiping pure ideals is no better either.

[QUOTE="TheNomad1375"] it would be ignorant for one not to identify with a party. I support strict gun legislation, free healthcare, and heavily oppose the death penalty, abortion and euthanasia, the legalization of drugs and the lowering of the drinking age; I'm all for war if it's necessary and I'm pro gay marriage, I'm religious, have issues with affirmative action, hate tree-huggers, despise conspiracy theorists and support having "under God" in the Pledge.

Where am I?

Independent, which is a party btw.

There's the Independent Party, and then there's independence from parties.

I'm very socialist in my political views, both socially and economically. However, i am for more gun rights then most people with my political views.

I considered myself anarchist at one point (minus a few of the socialist ideas commonly associated with it), but now I would say I'm liberal, especially when it comes to civil rights. I can see the need for government intervention and regulation of the economy, but I'm almost universally against laws that seek to "protect us from ourselves" or limit personal freedom.

Wow you are a mixed bag. Maybe niether. Slighty, ever so slightly Republican if at all. You'll be hard pressed to find similar minds in either party.

It's like I said: I believe in what I think is best for the country, not what's best for political parties. I'll vote Democrat, Republican or Sociliast Party if I think they have the best plans.
