So many I love... "The richest man is not he who has the most, but he who needs the least." "Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time." "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear." " What we think, or what we know, or what we believe is, in the end, of little consequence. The only consequence is what we do." "Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there." "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." "When you go into court you are putting your fate into the hands of twelve people who weren’t smart enough to get out of jury duty." "If there are no stupid questions, then what kind of questions do stupid people ask? Do they get smart just in time to ask questions?" " If the lessons of history teach us anything it is that nobody learns the lessons that history teaches us." "When I was a boy I was told that anybody could become President. Now I’m beginning to believe it." "Laughing at our mistakes can lengthen our own life. Laughing at someone else’s can shorten it." "Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it." "Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self." "Never be afraid to laugh at yourself, after all, you could be missing out on the joke of the century." " I am patient with stupidity but not with those who are proud of it." "Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it." "Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn’t." "When a person can no longer laugh at himself, it is time for others to laugh at him." " When law and common sense come into conflict, the law is wrong" "There are two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity....I'm not sure about the former though." "The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised." "You all laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same." "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life" "Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons." "Philosophy consists very largely of one philosopher arguing that all others are jackasses. He usually proves it, and I should add that he also usually proves that he is one himself. "In heaven all the interesting people are missing." "In truth, there was only one Christian, and he died on the cross." "The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently." "We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further." "Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen."

[QUOTE="super_mario_128"]C'est la vie. Better than any English saying on that theme.

I use that one all the time. "No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee." -John Donne

Wait...aren't you a Christian? GabuEx, you really confuse me sometimes.

I think it's pretentious because that quote is insinuating that anyone who is religious forgoes the use of logic, which is not necessarily true (you're a prime example of this yourself). I think I might be reading that quote wrong though.

EDIT: Ah yes, I missed that crucial "not" word.

I don't think it's saying that at all. Galileo was a Christian too. What he is saying is what I have said in the past: that Scripture is not intended to be a scientific textbook, and that if something in reality contradicts a literal interpretation of a passage of Scripture, then we ought to interpret the passage accordingly rather than to deny reality, to reassert the literal truth of the passage in the face of evidence to the contrary, and thus to forego our ability to think rationally about the world around us.

I see that now. Sometimes I'm a bit of a dunce.

The pursuit of world peace is kind of like the pursuit of perfection: you're never going to get there, but the result in the end is still better than if you hadn't tried. ;)

Crying followed by a thorough mashing of the face by a blunt object would be appropriate :P As for my favourite quotes, either "die smiling" or Jules' speech before wasting brett in Pulp Fiction.

Well, certain languages can express thoughts more concisely (and thus eloquently) than others. Whenever I translate something from English to Latin, the Latin translation is usually much shorter.

Different languages, atleast for me, tend to have more power and mystery behind them, simply due to the fact that not everyone can understand it. On that subject, what does that phrase mean?
