Personally, I thinkthose that are considered hipsterare people who might actually want to try something different, to be something other than a mindless consumer. I think the term "hipster" is a dirisive term invented by conformists to lable those who reject their beloved mainstream culture, and therefore, in their minds, threaten their narrow minded way of life.

Am I right?

Meh. It's all media-stirred demograph/class resentment. The middle classes have their stupid fashions and their ridiculous beliefs as much as the working class. It's only when you stop seeing the humans behind the caricature that there's a problem. Having said that, anyone wearing a scarf in summer deserves to be ridiculed.

It's popular to hate on something they actually know very little about. It is mainstream and all. See: Anime hate.

Wait, calling people "hipsters" has come back into fashion? Are we going to start calling each other 'jive turkeys' while attending roller-discos next?

I have nothing against hipsters as people. However, whenever I see someone wearing "hipster" style clothing, my first thought is almost always MASSIVE TOOL. First impressions count, y'know.

Short answer - no. Hipster is not synonymous with being a non conformist... that's why the term "hip" is part of the term. Someone who does not follow the herd and thinks for themselves would hardly be called a hipster. To me hipster means they are following the youthful and/or "alternative" trends which are every bit as manufactured and conformist. To me, thinking that "hipsters" are original thinkers is kind of a laughable concept.

Anti Conformism is Conformism.

In other words both the people who follow the mainstream and the people who avoid/hate on the mainstream are tools. The problem with those who hate on the mainstream is they like to pretend that they aren't conforming.

You have to judge things by what YOU like, by the style YOU like to wear. Not what the mainstream loves or hates.

I mean theres a difference between having your own style, or "beating to a different drum" as it's called......and looking like a complete idiot out in public. Just be yourself for god's sakes!

If you've ever used the term "hipster" to describe someone, you're probably a bit of a hipster yourself. Normal people just see teenagers acting douchey, like they always did.

Not really, I'm pretty sure "hipsters" don't call themselves hipsters seeing how that would defeat the purpose of not being branded with useless lables.

I think it's more so making fun of the label they've been given. Same goes for stereotypes (i.e. black friends of mine joke around how much they love watermelons and all that.)

And with LATFH.com, while I think they have a right to wear whatever they want I still think it's rediculous, but I've always thought people considered hipsters were those on LOOKBOOK. I mean, those are how people dress in my area, along with some of my friends, and while I wouldn't consider myself a hipster (or anything for that matter) I dress similiar to that.

Looking at these pictures, I guess I didn't know what a hipster was. I thought I had some "hipster" since I've listen to some indie bands.
