Yes a blanket is a single piece of thick cloth, often woven out of a heavy-weight material, like wool.
A quilt consists of a warm wadding sandwiched between covers (often cotton). The quilting, or pattern stitched through all the layers, help trap the warmth in the pockets it makes.
a blanket is all 1 or 2 peices of fabric while a quilt has many different fabrics sewned together. i only know this since i took sewing in middle school
I will fashion a crude pain drawing to illustrate this maybe? :P 5 mins!
But actually a duvet and quilt are the same in essence - with a quilt the wadding is a thin layer in the centre (less than half an inch) while obviously in a duvet it is often much thicker (2-3 inches sometimes). The duvet is a sort of swollen luxury quilt.
Ahhh... I'm confused as hell now.. Isn't that a duvet? th3warr1or
no, a duvet is generally huge, fluffy, and all that stuff.
a quilt is generally thin, and often has impressive patterns in it. Whereas a duvet is soft and fluffy, a quilts filling is dense and layered, but it manages to warm well relative to a duvet, and far better than an ordinary blanket.
The only downside is that a quilt is not as snuggly or soft or as inviting as a nice soft blanket or duvet
*looks at bed, complete with a nice new fresh duvet and freshly washed sheets*
damn, why cant I sleep...stupid insomnia acting up again
I also think quilts are a composite of a bunch of smaller pieces of cloth, most of the time at least.
A duvet is generally made of two solid sheets sewn together and then stuffed with a thick insulater
Oh ok means I've been sleeping in a silk duvet.. not a quilt.. Damn. Wrong terminology for nearly 20years.. :( th3warr1orMany people do refer to their duvet as a 'quilt' though so don't feel bad. I'm assuming you mean a duvet with silk covers though :P
