I am currently working my ass off trying to save money for a new gaming pc and I want to know what it would be like to just ask for it and get it? ANybody here grow up in a family making 500k a year and up? A million? Is being rich overrated. My family is what would be considered middle class, around 110K a year. However, we have a **** of expenses (land taxes, business loans), but im wondering what it'd be like to ask for something and just get it no matter how expensive.

Is it really that hard to imagine living the luxurious life? Not having to study or work, and getting anything you want whenever you want?

It takes a while to build the wealth.

20 years in the case of my parents.

And its not as great as people make it out to be.

A ton of what they make go into taxes. Corproate income taxes on top of personal income tax makes it crippling.

Eh, my father is the CFO of a hospital and my uncle a corporate lawyer for Weil, Gotshal and Manges making over 10 million a year and my fathers side owned oil land in Texas which they sold for a pretty penny...so while my family isn't rich my Uncle is obviously very comfortable. I guess the perks are multiple houses, boats, nice cars and being able to do whatever your whim desires. Go to exclusive country-clubs and order the best **** It's really about picking a good career path and getting in with a very good company. I personally am dirt broke, I hope to be as successful as the people on my fathers side but idk...

BossPerson

what do you do?

Engineering/controls (specializing in water pollution control plants). Doing well now, and as soon as unemployment rates get back to "normal" (whatever that is), I should be able to make my next big jump. Just biding time now.

(Of course I realize there are no guarantees).

i assume if i was rich, the main difference would appear in my lifestyle rather than how easily i could get the stuff i wanted,i mean it's pretty much the same thing but if i was born rich i wouln't be posting on GS atm or wouldn't spend most of my time at home thinking.

Well let me think here, you wouldn't have to work or do anything so you can just goof off all day. You wouldn't have to do simple things around the house (or in rich case, mansion) because your butler/maids do everything for you. Seems like you become a pretty useless person overall, I guess a downside of being rich is trying to find friends who like you for who you are and not just your money, same thing goes for trying to find love. Also mabey it would be hard to appreciate things anymore, like christmas presents and whatnot, because you could just buy it whenever you wanted to. You could buy everything.

But with money you have more oppurtunity to help people out who need it. I'm not rich or anything mind you, so I don't know for sure.

Why do people always think that being rich = no work, no routine, nothing to do basiclly?

I mean, if I was rich ill still work, just by investing or starting a business not actual hard labour. I'll already have the money, I can still keep it growing.

Yeah unless you're born into you usually have to bust your ass. My uncle routinely worked 12+hour days for what seemed like 365 days a year. Even on vacations. But then again there are also a lot of poor people who bust their ass and rich people who don't.

Have no idea, since I've always had to work for anything I got. I used a credit card to build my first gaming PC and it took me a few months to pay off. My parents are very upper-middle class and the only thing they ever gave me for "no reason" was a beat up Dodge Neon as my very first car, it had a green door and fender and it's paint was oxidized all over.

I come from a very wealthy family and it is pretty nice. I attended nice schools and learned plenty. I can tell you though most of their money goes into taxes. They get the shaft so many times on that end. I am still in college, but hopefully I can be like my parents one day, but being a US Marshall you don't make that much money to be considered rich lol. Oh well, it's what I want to do.

I'm not rich but I know my parents are. My dad is the highest ranking chemical engineer at his company so his salary, combined with bonuses, along with my mom's salary, we're quite well off. Lucky for me because of this I'm able to attend college without taking out any loans. Also one of the reasons why I decided to take engineering.

Not what it seems like to me. Even if they do go to jail, they're in there for only a week of their sentence or placed on house arrest.

I live pretty much exactly the same as I did before. Hell I still live with my parents because there was no housing crash here and it's damn hard to find an affordable decent looking place. Honestly it's mostly just nice not being in debt.

People in the entertainment industry primarly like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and that one director who raped a girl, but fled to another country (don't remember his name). I wasn't really thinking about normal rich nobodies.

So celebrities. Well, Lohan has been recently getting the book thrown at her, unfortunately with the state of the prison system in California, she doesn't serve the sentences she is given. Not sure what is going on with Paris Hilton, and I also don't have any idea about which director you're talking about. Celebrities are entirely different animal from regular rich people and I won't defend them.
