What was the band that got you into metal?

I don't consider Amon Amarth Melodic Death.

I started listening to metal in Elementary school the first band was prolly Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Man O War, and possibly a few others, it was so long ago that I cannot remeber clearly enough to pick out one. Maybe Deep Purple Child in Time since that was played in the Movie Twister and I watched that way back then, its still has some heavy riffs.

Altho now I listen to bands like Kalmah, Immortal, Nile, and Kataklysm as well as techno bands like Scooter and Basshunter.

No, not really, but as you can probably tell by the metal bands in my sig, I moved on to Symphonic Metal.

No, not really, but as you can probably tell by the metal bands in my sig, I moved on to Symphonic Metal.

Symphonic is great, same with atmospheric.

I now that most people here seem to like it, but I don't. So please don't just suggest that everyone does.

They don't suck because they're popular, they suck because they went from playing insanely technical, ultra-melodic Death Metal at breakneck speeds that was verging on the Neo-cIassical, to formulaic, Punk-inspired, "let's be loud and aggressive just for the hell of it" Death Metal.

Led Zeppelin got me into harder rock, Metallica got me into metal.

Metallica, although I don't listen to metal that often.

It's Oomph! for me, Then I got into R+, theneisbrecher, and a little bit of Megaherz.. I would like to get into more.. if anybody has any suggestions

Iron Maiden, followed by Falconer who introduced me to power metal.

I remember at first hearing a good In Flames track; "Embody the Invisible" I believe, and I loved it. But I think it was really Aeveron that sparked the major interest.

I think it was Led Zeppelin who got me into "Hard Rock". And I think what got me into actual "Metal" was Dream Theater.

Not into metal. Supposedly, Evanescence is a metal group, but I wouldn't really call it that.

Started off with some nu metal bands like Slipknot and Disturbed, then moved on to heavy, thrash, and death metal.

My favorite band, Iron Maiden.

Fear of the Dark is probably the most important song I ever listened to.

Van Halen got me into hard rock and hair metal.

I should mention that In Flames' song "Trigger", or rather the entire Reroute to Remain album was one of the first not-totally-mainstream metal albums I owned (even though I first heard the song on Headbangers Ball on MTV 2 :P )

Pretty much the only metal band I listen to is Metallica.

Iron Maiden first got me into metal and Megadeth got me into the heavy stuff.

godsmack was the first time i owned a CD.

Apart from a couple songs from The Deathstar and Powerman5000, I find metal to be crap. Electro easily slam dunk pwns metal.

I think Ensiferum and In Flames initiated my exploration into metal.

I would say Tool's album Undertow is what got me started in metal. Amazing album, as are all the rest of their releases.

Once I learned of Opeth, there was no turning back!

Metallica, unfortunately. I moved on to better stuff pretty quickly though.
