And why aren't they supposed to be inhaled anyway?

So does anyone here actually smoke cigars? If so, what kind of cigars do you recommend? Obviously I can't get Cubans because they're illegal. What is the next best thing?GAMESHARQA much better suggestion is don't smoke them; you might as well tattoo "douchebag" across your forehead as "try to get into cigars"

... awkwardI used to. Just smoked crappy cheap ones.

The answer: It's about virility and appearing high-class/cool. That's it. We see gangsters smoking them on TV, we see Hellboy puffing on one before he kills a monster. Pure status.
Secondly, as a smoker for seven years, I don't understand how people say they get a good "buzz" or become relaxed off cigars. As for me, with cigarettes, and every other real smoker, there is no buzz when we have a cigarette. That buzz that people refer to is your body becoming light-headed from lack of smoking in life. When you smoke a couple packs, that buzz leaves, and an itch grows. All nicotine does is give you an itch. Smoking relieves that itch. You know when you have a bad itch and you scratch that baby? Same feeling with a cig. No buzz, but relief. But cigars do not have nicotine, so I don't understand how they can be pleasurable. Unless you are smoking them to get light-headed and mistaking that for relaxation.
Lastly, others might say for the taste. "It's an acquired taste". Ok, I might let you off with that, but, and this is a big generalization, I highly doubt anyone on gamespots off-topic forum has truly acquired a taste for cigars.
Conclusion: It's for status. People who disagree are full of themselves or in denial....in my opinion.

I see nothing inherently "douchbagy" (yes, I just made that word up) about smoking.

I almost never smoke in social settings. Only time I puff a cigar is alone to relax. I'll admit that there is a good amount of tools that smoke, but I'll go ahead and say I have an acquired taste for cigars. Took a few years of smoking them before I could can honestly tell minor differences between sticks, but it's there.

You should start off with light to medium-bodied cigars: nothing heavy. At first you're going to taste mostly tobacco so I wouldn't go around buying $10 sticks for your first smoke.
You could always go to a smoke shop and ask for a mild cigar. 5 Vegas Gold is a rather popular brand that I would recommend for your first cigar.

What is the next best thing?GAMESHARQWell, I'm not going to argue with people who think I smoke because I'm a douche or whatever stupid rational they come up with to explain why I simply LIKE something... but to answer your question, Cubans are really where it's at. I'm Canadian, so we have them here, and I went over to Cuba 2 years ago, tried a different one everyday with some friends.. They're really good. I've had some great experiences with cigars from Nicaragua and Honduras though! I go to this little shop close-by, I always ask the owner for recommendations, and he usually comes up with great stuff! I wouldn't try to get such tips from a big place's employee though. One of my favorite, on the cheap side: http://www.cigarchoice.com/punch-cafe-royale-ems-cigars-pack-of-8/
To satisfy your fixation in the oral stage of development. I would give you George Carlin's opinion, but it is a mouthful. (http://www.vejatv.com/video-8895.George-Carlin-on-Cigars.html warning: language)

What is the next best thing?GAMESHARQI recommend Punch, which runs around $5 a cigar. Macanudus you can get almost anywhere, but they are around $10 cigar. Acid cigars are very flavorful (my personal favorite). Try Acid Kuba Kuba, should be around $7.
EDIT: Oh and Partagas, $8.
What about them causes people to vomit if inhaled?GAMESHARQ
Same thing that makes people puke after trying dip for the first time.
Too much **** going into you when your body isn't used to it.

I smoke and I like to think I've got a fairly low douche rating.
I am a huge jackass, though, but it isn't because of smoking.
Cigars are just nice to smoke whether it be by yourself at the end of the day or with a bunch of friends.
Their are plenty cheap cigars you can buy to try at first (can be purchased at any gas station or anything) but they are very low quality. I reccomend going to a tobacco shop and see what they reccomend for a first time smoker. Smoking cigars is a good hobby but can get expensive if you get a taste for very nice cigars.
