ive literally been googling it all day looking for a simplistic and easy to understand definition. but i find nothing that i understand.

i get that it has something to do with an empire and psoibly something about expanding territorial, economic, etc. control (i think).

but other than that. i dont get it. would someone care to explain?

It is the power the Imperial forces had over the rebel alliance. Of course in the end it is a power that is never strong enough to resist the power of the Light Side and Luke Skywalker.

Nah, I'd say only the most ardent, cynical Bush opponents would ever describe his actions as imperial.

USA isn't an empire, unless we are talking metaphorically, in which case all hell breaks lose.

?????? what are you trying to say? that USA is a major power that is pursing neoimperialistic goals? :? USA isn't an empire, so it cannot be an imperial power (whatever the hell that suppose to mean is)

I'm confused. You don't know what "imperial power" means, but you've already decided that whatever it is, that country behaves like it?

I thought an empire consisted of a mother country and then several dependent satellites who were under that main country's power. Simply acting in your own interest or pursuing your agenda is not an imperial action per se. In fact, that's what most nations tend to do.

No, imperial power is simply a power that happens to be an empire. Empire is a state with an emperor as a head of state. Why are yo so eager to connect the term imperial with something negative? If anything, it's "imperialistic" that's negative, imperial is simply a adjective form of empire. Is US imperial? no. Is US imperialistic? that is a subject to debates, but I can see that it is.
