What do you think of character stereotypes?

What I am asking is: What do you think of character stereotypes? As in books, movies, games, and otherwise. Like how if a certain character is an underground dweller they automatically end up being evil most of the time instead of turning that stereotype around to a more positive light. 

My second question is: What would you like to see in the future to break these character stereotypes?

I see a lot of role reversion in media. Though also a lot of stereotypes as well.

I see a lot of role reversion in media. Though also a lot of stereotypes as well.

At times there is but it would be interesting to see more of these stereotype molds broken and new territories explored.

I really hated when they made stifler the good guy in American Pie Reunion. He was good as a stereotyped bad guy in all previous American Pie movies lol.

A good example of that are the "Prairie People" in the 80's animated show Bravestarr.
