When you transition from one system to another, a common practice is to keep certain legacy code so it doesn't bug out, evenif they become vestigial. This might be one of those.
do the points still accrue or did they stop when they got rid of the level system?
Yup. Old, fun leveling system where you got different levels with unique game-oriented names based on how many points. I do not believe they accrue anymore, but an easy check is to see if they change in a few days from what you posted here.
GameSpot should really bring this back.
@Byshop I WISH that were my lifespan (in days)!

The number revealed by the Shinigami Eyes does indeed indicate lifespan, but the meaning of the number is only understood by the Shinigami themselves. No specific meaning was ever explained in the series as to how the numbers actually correlate to lifespan. That's why the GS score reminded me of that. I see these numbers and I have no idea why my score is 2.4 million, or why someone else's score is higher or lower than mine.

Level system. I don't remember if I ever passed level 63. I think I did. 64 was much shorter, 65 was only a few days long I think.
LJS got 68 or 69 I think. Top level before it was removed was 70 or 71. @kitty probably remembers the levels better than I do. 63 was the top level for a couple of years at least.
I wish it would come back.
