What shows shat the bed?

Voyager immediately comes to mind. Its like the writers throw everything about the past 7 years out the window e.g.

Stuff like Picard saving Hugh unwilling to potentially kill the Borg, or the Crystalline Entity which is compared to a whale than "evil".

In the final, "Endgame" Voyager gets to earth, but it was hard, some of her buddies are dead. So Janeway breaks the prime-directive and travels back in time with potential future technology for the Borg, basically ending everyone in that timeline, technically giving the Borg the technology and committing giant massive genocide because the Borg and now cartoon villains of the week with the baddie Borg woman screaming "noooo!".

When Voyager eventually gets back, it ends immediately on that, aside from the episode being all kinds of stupid, it's deeply unsatisfying.

Enterprise had an even worse ending, but that show was never good, so didn't really care.

I was never that into Smallville, but watched periodically and was interested enough to see how things ended. And the way they ended it, was to have him go from person to person and listen to them spout exposition at him for 2 hours. Then in the last 5 mins, he puts on his suit and flies into space so he can... push Planet Apokolipse farther away from Earth.

Ok, that last part makes a little more sense than I am letting on, but the explanation is just too boring for me to lay out properly. Suffice it to say, it was a fittingly anti-climactic end to a show that was always varying degrees of... fine.

The original X-Files series. The last episode was basically just a bunch of clips from previous episodes - it was a total letdown.

@sn0man: Oh god. I think I blocked the final episode of X-Files from my memory. Your mentioning it is giving me flashbacks of a bunch of bullshit. That was a terrible finale.

INB4 someone says Sopranos. Personally I didn't think it was that bad but it was a bit unsatisfying.

Sopranos, Dexter and My Name is Earl (due to being canceled after being promised it wouldn't be so a cliff hanger was used as a season ending)

Lost...although I never made it past season 4, by that time I already knew the writers were clueless buffons who couldn't write themselves out of a paper bag.

Seinfeld, unfunny last episode that didn't work in anyway with the rest of the show.

The Sopranos and Lost are two that immediately spring to mind for me. So very, very unsatisfying.

Of recent memory, Game of Thrones easily. Some shows naturally declined in quality over time e.g. Dexter. Game of Thrones was just held down and and drowned in the bath tub. Then those cowards backed out of their Star Wars contract when it was most likely that commitment which sped up the conclusion of the Game of Thrones.

That '70s Show comes to mind. Having that goofy looking kid as a replacement for Eric Foreman's character in the final season and having Foreman come back in literally the last 30 seconds of the final episode ruined the series for me. I can't even watch the reruns.

Yup, but Quantum Leap hurt the worst.

Also the cliffhanger at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog on ABC.

@br0kenrabbit: To be fair Quantum Leap and Alf were cancelled when the creators thought they would get another season.

Way too many to list but for me recently it would be Game Of Thrones. That last season was just awful.

There was a show called John Doe with Dominic Purcell. It was about a guy who woke up not knowing who he was but knew everything that there was in the world. He used his knowledge to make him rich and fight crime, but then he got a lead on a mysterious capsule in the forest that he thought might explain who he was. As he opened the door, he poked his head in... and then CANCELED. I'll be 95 and still won't forget that.

Their were plans to make a followup to Quantum Leap with his daughter but it seems largely scrapped now.

Giving the quality of stuff like Star Trek: Discovery and Picard where they favor spectacle over substance, it might be best to leave Quantum Leap as is.

Excellent show btw. Never forget how tense that JFK episode was.

The plot twist where you find out he actually did change history was really well done and unexpected without feeling like a cop out.

Just rewatching Voyager, "Living Witness" is weirdly a better finale. If they went on from that with the Doctor returning 700+ years later, would have been far more interesting.
