So theres a new commercial, kinda like a PSA, that is trying to get ppl not to say "thats so g--." (the last word can mean happy)

Personally, I don't say it. I used to say it every now and then but it's as if I something clicked and I just found it dumb to say. I don't think it will stop youths from saying it though it's a nice try.

In a way I kinda think they shouldn't worry about it too much. Then again, I guess it would annoy me so..........I dunno, it's a good idea.

Heres the commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWS0GVOQPs0

PS: sorry if old

People who say that picked it up from their friends, and they picked it up from THEIR friends. Most teenagers are just a bunch of copycat parrots.

Wow, that was a pretty good commercial I must say. And idk, it just comes out nowadays when something stupid happens, i think it's because i don't curse and i use the phrase as a substitute for doing so.

It just made me want to say it more. Also it is just a form of slang/ figure of speech. I stopped saying it after my teenage years was over. That commercial is just gonna provoke it more. Also OT before you explode out of anger of my comment think about it...is that commercial really necessary? All this politically correctness is getting old...real fast.

Honestly I feel that we need something better to do with our time if we're nitpicking the use of slang in society.

I'd normally agree with you but come on...do you really think you are not offending homosexuals by saying it? If this was something more along the lines of stop saying the word deaf as it may offend hearing impaired people, then i could understand your point about political correctness.

Don't think that's new (can't watch the video right now but I saw something similar to it like over a year ago). Wanda Sykes (UGH /shudders) telling some goofy teens in a diner to stop, right?

Meh, don't give a f*** really. People need to realize words are given meaning through context. No word is inherently offensive and worthy of being "off-limits."

However, Wanda Sykes should be considered inherently offensive, because UGH.

Listen....mostly kids say it. And what do kids love to do? Disobey rules/what people want them to do, etc. This commercial is just gonna make it worst. The mind of a child does not think tht far about other people but only about their friends, and good times. It is a form of slang which most people don't think about. The sooner people don't pay attention to it the sooner it will go away.

What's so bad about that commercial? I actually kind of chuckled in my head when she said "That's so sixteen-year-old-boy-with-cheesy-mustache." They have a point. But since other people brought up the n word, I've always wondered why only black people are only allowed to say it? I think either everyone shouldn't be allowed to say it or nobody should be allowed to say it.

The problem is gay doesn't necessarily mean homosexual. It's was originally used as a subtle way to say homosexual because saying homosexual was deemed in polite.

Basically the homosexual community could of let go of the word, and it would of shifted from it's understand as homosexual to gaudy, and effeminate. Instead they seem to want to cling onto this esoteric phrase and continue to condemn future generations of homosexuals to the same ridicule they had to suffer. Blacks did the same thing w/ the n-word.

This was just a waste of comercial space if you ask me, billy mays could have sold at least 1000 things in that minute commercial. I still use the word sometimes because it generally sounds funny. I don't have anything against gays. Anything you say these days can be taken as offensive, it's just stupid.

As a gay I don't find it very offensive, since most people utter it mindlessly without considering the negative connotations it applies to homosexuality. w/e

Dear Wanda Sykes,

You are not funny.

That being said I use the word in a derogative sense from time to time.

I say it all the time but I don't mean homosexual. To be honest telling people not to say thats so gay or something isn't going to do anything, they should be encouraging people not to be homophobic.

Gay also means other things, among them being 'Happy'.

"I have tomorrow off work and i am really really gay as a result".

"That smiling guy over there must be really gay".

The word itself is fine.

i was comming to post that same video.

seriously though the first thing i thought after i first saw that commercial was "that was gay".

the kids making fun of the statue, the "do you realize what you say?" line at the end, the fact that Wanda had just come out of the closet that same year, all of it was just horrible

*watches commercial* No, I will not knock it off. I will continue to address it in that context. (obviously I won't do it here in GS though)

Now, if the commercial was addressing the word "retarded" I would then support the commercial.

I will NOT knock it off.

Maybe gay people should just come up with a new word for themselves...

I, say things are gay all the time... I don't have a problem with gay people... Not one thought of a gay person passes through my mind when I say it... In fact, I love lesbians. And the only time I dislike gay men is when they go out of their way to be as flamboyantly flaming as they can possibly be, to the point where it is annoying.

They take it too literal, same way people get offended when they see someone being called retard n-word etc. It's usually a joking matter when send, it's very obvious when it isn't a joking matter.

Personally, I don't use it, but we don't see them creating ads about people who curse, or people who drink alcohol for recreational purposes occasionally on a night out with the buddies that may or may not lead to an STD and a hangover, but this... they get right on this! It's a phrase that's commonly used by teenagers that they grow out of. The people who create these ads need to stop speaking for other people and actually look and see if what they're talking about is hurting anyone, because it seems as if Wanda Sykes was eavesdropping on those young men's conversation, while most people really wouldn't care what someone else is saying, let alone enough to hone in on it and confront them about it unless it was stated at them.
