I thought I would make a thread for the guitarists out there on Gamespot. Gather as you will and share your stories and post some pictures of your guitars ! :) BASS Guitarists are guitarists too! :)

Are you in bands? How long have you been playing? What's your favorite genre or music to play?

I joined the guitar union myself, but it was dead by the time I got there. If anyone wants to start up a new Guitar Players union, maybe we can organize one.

Rock on ! :P

*EDIT* Look for the "Guitar Players Union" in the next few days or so (need 3 more people to charter before I can start it).

I've been playing for almost 2 years. Never been in a band, though I do jam with my friends every now and then. Blues, Rock, Jazz, Jazz Fusion are my favorite genres to play.

I've been hitting notes on guitars for about a year I guess. I can play songs and I know how to read very little sheet music, but I play guitar often enough in my own way, which is mostly just messing around.

I've played the acoustic guitar for 13 years. Best venue I ever played was the Royal Albert Hall with a guitar group.

Hey Bass counts, Bass is cool too. I have played bass a couple times, I'm no expert with a bass though. I forgot to mention I like all genres except Jazz really, but I do respect Jazz players.

Guitar influences, SRV, Hendrix, Clapton, Kirk Hammet, Jimmy Page, Tommy Emmanuel, Billy Gibbons, Don Felder, and many others.

Personally, I hate neo-cIassical shred, but the fact that his entire body is paralyzed due to ALS except for is eyes is horrible. He seems like a very cool guy (he communicates via blinking his eyes to form sentences). It's also amazing that he's managed to compose albums in his vegetative state.

Watched that Jason Becker video, he is very good, not as clean as some players, but very good nonetheless. A little of that classical piece is in the famous guitar duel at the end of the movie Crossroads.

I have too many pictures of my guitars to clutter the thread, but if anyone wants to see them here they are:

http://www.gamespot.com/users/GunnyHath/view_album?id=42kwXB1dLXqPRMI

I fall into the "my guitars cost more than my vehicle" category lol. A couple small pics, much larger ones at the link.

Bass guitar is still guitar as far as im concerned, it's just missing the two highest strings (in the 4 string case), so you can definitely fall under the Yes I rock out category guys :)

Alright then, I'm in. I can play fairly well (I can play "The Trooper with only a few minor mistakes, and can Ace "ace of Spades" ;) ) I'd say I'm average to pretty good. I used to be in a band until today, when I realized who was going to be our permanent drummer. Long story short I hate his guts, and would have just beat the hell out of him during practice. I didn't want his drugged-up ass to come back the newxt week and shank me (I know he will). So I left. There was also the thing about the band leader wanting to get me out of the band so his "precious girlfriend" can play the bass part. F That!

So me and (hopefully) the rythm guitarist are leaving, and we're going to find a drummer and make a band that beats the tar out of theirs!

Absolutely, Stevie Ray was and is the man, but as far as bass players go, Tommy was pretty amazing, and very underrated (as most bass players are). It takes just as much talent to play, but they don't get the recognition as often.

Yes, and just for clarification, when I said that SRV 'overshadowed' him I meant that he took priority on the stage, not that Tommy paled in comparison to Stevie.

I just always thought it was amazing how he could get his bass to sound so similar to a guitar.
