Has anyone who's seen it want to give their opinion on it? Because, from the clips I saw of it before it was released, I thought it looked pretty good. Kinda like a Avatar in a different universe, if I'm not mistaken. But, it got slated & lost a bunch of money. Now, seeing the box art on the DVD, its so lame. Just who was in charge of pushing this film, because I think that they might well be behind why its failed so bad. It so awful, like a year seven project!

Help save John Carter, buy the DVD........................no don't, but do post your views on it.

So its just a flop, just a big money nose dive. Well, I my apologies to the advertisement crew, it looks like they were just following bland orders then.

it is shyt.

they just slapped a formula bad guy and a standard scifi story on edgar rice burroughs characters.

it has almost nothing in common with the books, just read those instead. they are free books online and on youtube there is the book on tape.

The movie was somewhat fun to watch but pretty mediocre. Disney was stupid to spent so much money on such a flawed project

The movie was entertaining to watch. Yea the characters were generic and plot was predictable. But it wasn't as bad as most people made it out to be. If you are just looking for an action film to blow some time away its worth a rental.

It was a fun Sci fi fantasy watch.

I find it silly that every film released must now define its genre and be a revolution in film making.

John Carter of Mars is THE original sci fi fantasy adventure, callit unoriginal is idiotically ignorant

I saw it, I thought it was incredibly boring, and the story was only average. The special effects weren't even that believable. There is in fact a reason it lost $200 million.

If you want a generic fantasy sci-fi that sort of looks pretty and has some interesting fight scenes.. And it were free or less than $10.. I'd say it's worth it :P

It's money losing status is somewhat misleading as it was dramatically listed as a 200 million loss by Disney so they could move on the people responsible for the mess more effectively as they attempted to hold onto a public save of face. They also wanted to cook the books a bit by taking the falsely projected loss early knowing full well the film wouldn't really lose that money once all was said and done which would only serve to help them close out the year more successfully. To date John Carter has made $282,778,100 giving it a box office profit of $32,778,100 which is certainly not awesomesauce considering its ridiculous $250,000,000 price tag, but it also doesn't take into account money from streaming rentals nor DVD sales which to date are around $15,000,000 which of course further help to pad the profit or help to decrease the pain of the money used in advertising.

The first book came out in 1912 so this guy was probably writing sci fi in the 1800s. The story itself isn't that great in the book either. Its about this guy who falls asleep in a cave after hiding from indians and wakes up on Mars/Barsoon. What follows is 300+ pages of primarily fights, after fights with little plot to boast of. Just like the movie.

Not an awesome movie, but definately not as bad as reviews or people make it out to be. The movie is entertaining, the special effects are very well done and I liked the ending which was quite good.

I loved the movie and was really sad to find out it flopped. People bash it but it was better than a lot of sci fi in recent years, hell its better than the new SW trilogy.

Pretty much this. I thought it had a really slow start, but once it started picking up I enjoyed it.

Films have to roughly double their budget to break even.  If it cost $250 million, it needed to gross $500 million.
