I loved the documentary-style filming of the original Cloverfield movie as well as the Kaiju-esque theme, and 10 Cloverfield Lane was a simply brilliant suspense-scifi, with John Goodman just playing an amazing role.

And then..this comes along, somehow by surprise (at least to me), so I was genuinely excited for the last-minute upload by Netflix on Superbowl Sunday.

But what do we get? Random crap happening for literally no reason, with some tenuous tie-in to the original Cloverfield movie.

It's like a bunch of people from all over the world were just told "Space horror with physics!" and to come up with stuff.

"ummm...particle accelerator!"
"Parasites!"
"The Thing is good. Let's do it like that! IN SPACE!"
"TIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrravel derp"

And then some Cloverfield sprinkled in.

So what do you guys think? I've seen and even enjoyed some terrible movies in my life, but Cloverfield Paradox was just insulting.

You heard what they did, right? They more or less hijacked this guy's movie he was making about a book called "The God Particle" which was fairly different, and re-shot a bunch of scenes to tie-in Cloverfield.

Then they added a really lame CGI thing at the end...

Like you said, cash grab.

Despite only seeing the first movie, and hearing that 10 Cloverfield Lane is pretty good (I still need to get around to seeing that), I recall 10 Cloverfield Lane being the same thing.

Wasn't 10 Cloverfield Lane also shot as a completely different movie and then later 'hijacked" in order to be a Cloverfield tie in? Because I distinctly remember seeing a lot of stuff about that being the case. If that's the case, I'd call that a "cash-grab" too. The problem wouldn't lie in being a "cash grab", the problem would lie in turning out to be a shitty movie. I mean, 10 Cloverfield Lane was supposedly also a different movie that got hijacked in order to be a Cloverfield-related cash-grab, but people seem to be okay with it because the movie didn't suck.

How can it be a cash grab when it is free with your Netflix subscription?

Did you pay extra for it?

I pay for my subscription, nothing on Netflix is free.

But if you want an answer, Netflix tries to boost viewership by pulling stunts like this since they are a publicly traded company. If they can go "Oh look at these stats; after the superbowl, we had MORE PEOPLE watch this lame movie than they did the superbowl! Viewership is up!" = more profit.

Yes, we subscribe, but we don't inherently determine how much Netflix stock is worth simply because we watch a movie. There are other things to consider.

Yeah, Cloverfield Lane was great but it seemed to have nothing to do with the original film. Did they really hijack it? I thought they made it ground up to be a Cloverfield movie.

Like they finally said with this third movie "Hey, well, the first two had nothing to do with eachother. Let's go for a third".

I liked this movie I don't understand the hate I also liked 10 Cloverfield Lane I watched some of original years ago but I couldn't stand shaky cam made me motion sick. Paradox is not the worst movie ever not even close.

@warmblur: maybe not ever, but in recent memory, which feels like ever :D

and like I said, I know there are technically worse movies, but they were at least more enjoyable.

Cloverfield Paradox is, idunno...pointless? Insulting? Embarrassing?

@MrGeezer:

10 Cloverfield was actually quite good, I came in with no knowledge of the original, so the twist at the end was a nice surprise. I thought Goodman was completely delusional.

I haven't seen the new Blade Runner yet but this show rivals the old blade runner as far as tech-noir stuff goes.

I've got the new Blade Runner coming in the mail tomorrow I think, it will be interesting to finish this show then see that movie.

The movie is pretty meh overall but it's an average "sci fi space station horror/thriller with weird shit happening" film. Nothing even close to a "worst film ever".
