I picked Lord of the Rings since I find them to be over all better than the original trilogy, and better than the prequel trilogy by a mile. Though if this was including the EU of Starwars, I'd pick that without hesitation.

It seems wrong to compare two series that are completely different. I love them both.

LotR is vastly superior as far as movies go, plus I like the fantasy sci-fi genre better than future sci-fi. But Star Wars is a classic that will be remembered for ages. I like both almost equally.

If I must choose, I would pick LOTR, just because overall as a movie its better, and my bias toward the fantasy theme :P

Well I'd never get into the extended universe of Star Wars or the prequels. On the other hand, I do like learning about all of Tolkien's works. But it is just IV, V, and VI versus the LotR trilogy. It's a reaaaaaally tough decision, but I'd most often pick Star Wars. I have to be in the right mood to watch any of the LotR movies (and then I love them). But I can watch IV, V, or VI whenever and always enjoy them.

Lotr is a better book series, but I've never read any Star Wars books. Also, can't compare two different genres, two different film trilogies or two different directors who have completely different styles as well as different writers for the films.

KamuiFei

It's not future Sci-fi, it's in the past because in the beginning of every Star Wars movie, it says, "A long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away..."

Hard to compare the 2, but Star Wars seems to have deeper content in it, through comic books, games, etc.

Like I said, there is much more than the movies. In fact, i think someone said that to understand what is going on in the movies, you have to read the books and other media. They have video games, card games, comic books, etc., for Star Wars, and there is stuff inside. I think the content is pretty rich.

Example, different aspects of the force, weapons, ships and fighters, alien races, planets, etc.

LOTR has pretty much the same amount content aside from the books and movies than Start Wars (minus crappy cartoon and otherstaight to DVD movies).
