It's been two weeks now and actually smoking my first pack was an awful experience, dizziness, headaches, stomach aches but now it's actually improved and i can see what all the buzz is about smoking. The worst part probably is that i know the effects of nicotine and i pity myself after every cigarette i smoke, saying to myself "you're poisoning and killing yourself", "you'll die of cancer" but i continue to smoke nevertheless...

So, are there any smokers on OT and what are your experiences with smoking

i smoke cigarettes sometimes. but i go to the gym and get good exercise, so i figure it cancels out the negative effects of cigarettes.

One day when I'm bored enough I might try smoking just to see what's it like. If I'm not too hyped after doing that then I'll just forget about the whole thing If I end up liking it then, I will look back upon that day in my bed while I'm dying and say "Damn"

i remember my friend would hate his parents for smoking and would get mad at our other friends for smoking but then he tried it a couple of times and he smokes constantly so i've seen how addicting and powerful smoking can get. TC, you know, everytime you smoke your increasing your chances significantly of getting lung cancer, throat cancer, heart disease and all that but yet no matter how much you think about it you can't stop. So i say you should try to stop right now since you just started it.

Smoking isn't a habit you want to pick up. I smoke occasionally, but it isn't something I would do on a regular basis.

Smoking (as you have probably heard many times before) really does doirreversible damage to your body, and thats something you have to think about if you want to continue smoking.

Yes, i was like that too, constantly trying to convince my dad to quit smoking. He started smoking when he was 13, he's 47 now... That's 34 years of smoking. My sister started smoking three years ago, nearly all my friends smoke so i said what the heck. I really know how bad cigarettes can be, i have read about its effects but i guess i'm being deliberately stupid.

That depends, my grandad has been a smoker his whole life, he stopped smoking 2 years ago when he got a heart attack. He's 75 now. Basically my whole family (except my uncle and his wife) are smokers so i decided to join the club. Everyone is saying that i will regret it one day but i just want to experience the feeling. To see what the fuzz is all about. I'm even planning on quitting in a few years but you never know, nicotine addiction is supposedly a very strong one.

Almost everything is not that bad if done with moderation and almost everything is bad if done in excess. I think smoking applies to that too.

It's your choice if you want to smoke it. If we didn't do something because we thought it might be dangerous we might as well sit in our houses all day and hook up to a life support machine. I mean you wouldn't want to go outside, you might be run over if a car were to drive off the pavement. Don't breathe the air, it's polluted. As long as you don't overdo it you will be fine. The same people who complain about smokers killing themselves are often the ones who go out and enjoy sports and such. Good for you, but you're probably just as likely to die going down a mountain on a bike regularly than you are from developing cancer from smoking. Don't try and force your life choices on others, especially when you aren't even seeing it from their perspective.

I don't really understand why someone would WANT to start smoking. I mean I get why people who smoke continue to smoke (because of the nicotine addiction and all), but why would you want to start in the first place? Is it supposed to make you cool or something?

I plan on quitting after a few years of smoking, i'll probably get addicted by then :)

This sums it up pretty nicely :)

What I Liked about Smoking:

The bonding I experienced with other smokers.
The feeling of creating a ritual.
Watching the cigarette burn and watching the smoke swirl.
Momentary gratification.

There is a "What i hated about smoking" but i'm not going to post it as i'm not really addicted yet.

Don't worry, the really bad effects of cigarettes don't begin for about 17 years.

They'll have cured cancer by then......probably, and if they don't, I'm sure ur freinds and family will just enjoy suffering because of ur bad decisions.

Myself and others I know like the general high and calm it brings.I'm usually a social smoker though.
