If Gymnastics is a sport, then i guess Cheerleading is too
In gymnastics you are competing against other gymnasts and there is scoring. you never seen Bring it on?Even though there're cheerleading competitions? It's not a sport. It's an athletic activity.

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]Even though there're cheerleading competitions? We are talking about HS cheerleading. Not competitive. They are completely different as are the styles of cheering. Cheerleading at games is barely even an activity. It's not a sport. It's an athletic activity.

It certainly can be competitive, there are plenty of cheerleading competitions. Also, according to the definition, it need not be competitive to be a sport.
Again, that's not what we're discussing here.Hey! The cheerleaders at my school were good looking. And no it's not a sport per say but it has to do with sports. The most important thing that we need to remember here is when they do thier flips you can see thier undies.
It might be a sport if they were scored, but then...what about what they're cheering for? "Jordan for three! And look, Bulls cheerleaders get a 9.3 for that interesting combination! Let's see the slow mo!" BranKetrahahaha
haha to bad the cheerleaders at my school are terribly ugly!!!Hey! The cheerleaders at my school were good looking. And no it's not a sport per say but it has to do with sports. The most important thing that we need to remember here is when they do thier flips you can see thier undies.

What's not what we're discussing? I'm talking about cheerleading.

Fair enough, I can agree with that.[QUOTE="PernicioEnigma"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]

Cheerleading is a much more dangerous activity than most sports like football, but I do not consider it a sport as there is no competition to score the most points or get to the finish sooner. It requires a judge for it to be considered to have competition and if having a judge qualifies as a sport, then I suppose so is a dog show.Genetic_CodeIf it's so dangerous, then so is majorettes. They do the same basic things as cheerleading, if not more, plus with three or four batons at a time. Sometimes there will be knives, batons with the ends on fire (I so wanted to do that, but quit before I did. I probably could now), all while doing dance moves, cartwheels, back bends, walk overs, round offs, etc. For majorettes, there are competitions and at the competitions, there's scoring on how well the tricks are executed, on the performance, etc. At HS, cheerleading is basically nothing. You're just doing fan kicks, splits, kicks, and moving your arms while clapping, unless you actually go to a school where they do more than that. At my school, it was just nothing but standing around and clapping.
Those aren't undies. Those are spanks. Or at least, they should be wearing spanks.Hey! The cheerleaders at my school were good looking. And no it's not a sport per say but it has to do with sports. I'm sexy, I'm cute! I'm popular to boot! I'm b****'n, great hair! The boys all love to stare! I'm wanted, I'm hot! I'm everything your not! I'm pretty, I'm cool! I dominate this school!
It takes skill and teamwork, and some individuals can be better than others at it so yes I'd call it a sport.
And you really don't need to identify the person as ugly, if you think all cheerleading is for is ugly/pretty girls to get attention and tumble around then you're doing it wrong.
I bet, and sincerely hope, you didn't speak to her like that to her face.

Look at the LA Clippers. They just stand around and wait for the ball to come to them, they don't pass well and don't play defense. All they do is stand around and shoot. Heck, any cheer leader probably runs more than them since they are so bad at getting back on defense.
Some teams in various competitions (cheer leaders are competiting for things from what i understand, its just that there are so many mediocre teams that a large portion of them don't care if they do good jobs or not) are just bad.
Your average cheer leading team that is medicore and stands around clapping is no more a sports team than the LA Clippers are.
What I'm saying is both of them are equally sports teams.
It can be..
cheering for a team is not.
cheering competitively against other squads is. it's essentially team gymnastics. choreographed routines which are judged and scored to find a victor.
What guy frets over a conversation he had with an ugly girl? Admit it, you are the ugly girl. cybrcatterno...im just sharing in the "Off topic disscusion"
There is competitive cheerleading which can actually be kind of demanding.. even though i agree high school cheerleading is not a sport. I can jump up and down to.. We had a pep rally and that freshman cheerleaders were pathetic
Well, you CAN get a good work-out by cheerleading I guess.Rod90no she was explaining the work outs and they are so easy its not even funny

You missed where I said HS. HS = high school. Cheering a team on is not exactly a sport. It's just "encouraging" the team to do better.[
