So I recently started smoking, just one a day when my friends would go out at lunchtime or break or whatever. Just wondering if anyone here would know, roughly how harmful it is being to me.

Please refrain from saying stuff like "one a day? What's the point!" or "Quit now or you will get addicted" because, frankly my dear(s), I don't give a damn.

Obviously you give a damn if you made a thread asking how harmful smoking is.

Then why bother asking at all?

There is no safe amount of smoking you can do. But it's your life, you can live it however you want. Just be sure to respect other's choice of not smoking or being around you when you smoke.

Smoking cigarettes is bad for you, you should quit before you get really addicted.

One a day probably won't kill you, but you will eventually become addicted and start smoking more and then it will become significantly more dangerous. Seriously though, don't smoke, my grandfather already died from it and my father has lung cancer because of it. You don't want to go down that road.

I say don't even bother if you're going to smoke cigarettes, smoke the good stuff like meth. Go big or go home.Fightingfan

For real. I'm thinking of smoking meth for the cosmetic benefits. It really does wonders for your skin and hair.

Probably a little worse than second hand smoke...

Though, it will more than likely manifest into smoking more (as once your system is addicted to nicotine, you will need it to function properly, and will thus smoke more...)

Really depends on your body personally... I have seen people develop lung cancer from being around second hand smoke within months... I have also seen people smoke a pack a day for 30 years and not have lung cancer...

"Just one a day." - That phrase has probably killed more people than any other, and got me hooked back in the day. Don't do it.

It's still dangerous because every time you smoke there is a chance that there will be a mutation that is what causes cancer (you could get cancer from just one even though the chances are EXTREMELY low). But, your unlikely to have a large build up of tar in your lungs so if you want to I'd say go for it. I smoke half a pack a day, so I'd suggest not smoking more because the Nicotine High does go away in time because your body will get used to that amount of nicotine(you can wait longer between smokes to get a buzz again. After 3 days the majority of the nicotine is out of your system).

Just smoke none. I could understand if you smoke one when you're drunk, a lot of people do that, but just one a day seems kind of odd. If you're looking for a once-a-day habit, there are plenty of less expensive and less health-damaging than a daily cancer stick. Also, if you don't give a damn, don't post here asking questions. Duh.

I have an uncle who is in the hospital dying from throat cancer right now, so smoking is very bad for you.
