Which is your favorite trigonometric function? I like Sine more cause since the derivative of Sinx is just Cosx, instead of that annoying minus sign that you get when you make derivate on Cosx and get -Sinx. In addition, Cos is not a very nice word in Arabic.

EDIT: And don't forget that Tanx=Sinx/Cosx. Sin on top. Cos on bottom.

And that's the end of that story.

Depends. I've been out of school for 10 years and haven't had to use anything besides basic algebra since then.

What does cos mean in Arabic? Anyways, I don't really have any preference about this.

Its a slang for vagina. We often use it as an obscene and very degrading pejorative or curse word. Usually we use it in this context "kos emmak" which means "I curse your mother vagina". Another variation is "kos 2o5tak" which means "I curse your sister vagina". My personal favorite use of it is "kos 2o5t manzarak" which literally means "I curse the sister of your appearance". It makes no sense I know but it kind of conveys a meaning of deep degrading and disdain of you and anything related to you. It goes without saying that these words have slang informal meanings along their original formal meanings which is why it won't make sense to you whatsoever.

Btw, we use numbers in Internet language to pronounce voices that we can't find a match for them in English. Some sort of transliteration. "2" is the Arabic "a" sound and "a" here is the voiced consonant rather than the vowel a. Like the start sound of a in "aardappel". "5" is the hard g found in Dutch like the g in "groen".

On topic, I much prefer the cos for some reason. Always felt its eclipsed by the sin function and that its treated like an underdog. I'll tell you this: cos takes a backseat to no one! It saddens me that sin is used much frequently in the scientific sphere :(

Thanks for the explanation. Yes, it doesn't make much sense to me lol, but you'll find lots of dutch curse words that won't make much sense in English either.

Well, we basically use a lot of deadly diseases as curse words. Things like kanker, tyfus, tering (cancer, typhus and tuberculosis). You can call someone a kanker hoer for example (cancer whore).

I'm not sure if this is against the ToU lol

@deeliman: What a difference in culture, that is cool in Dutch language deadly diseases are used as curse words. Always thought English insults were so stale.

Sine vs Cosine...I don't remember anything about calculus besides the basics like derivatives. I only had to use calculus in managerial economics.

Like cosine more cuz it's "Negative-Eater" , not because the "cos" in our slang language(Persian) means "Vagina" though.....

Sine is simpler and isn't the co of another function. However, I prefer the Law of Cosines over the Law of Sines because I discovered the LOC before others in my class and I used it to double check my solutions.

I miss trig, It was so easy and I enjoyed unwrapping equations and functions and making them look clean.

none of them. I hate when you have to remember shit for integrating where you have to replace trigonometric functions with 1-s/(s-s)^343433 or some shit.

Not that kind of math. The best math I can do is lower-level statistics, and even that is mostly done through computer programs like Excel or SPSS. Math and I, we have a dark history.
