Roseanne reboot canned after racist tweet

ABC took a big risk with the reboot of the show, and it just backfired.

EDIT: Waiting to see how long it takes Trump to tweet about how the show was only cancelled because Barr is a Trump supporter. I'm sure he'll get right on it as soon as he's finished telling the families of dead soldiers what a nice day Memorial Day is to celebrate what Trump has done for the country.

To cancel the show over that comment you have to be the most sensitive person in the world. My guess is they were looking for any reason to cancel it and this fit the bill...

yeah they should have let the chips fall where they may. to be fair however, they should also give me 30 mins to say whatever I want but in general, yes it should have stayed on.

@n64dd: The point of that episode was Muslims are only cool to Roseanne after she inspects them to make sure they aren’t terrorists and after they give their wifi password.

If I’m wrong, by all means tell me what the point of that episode was besides blatant racism.

The full extent of the tweet was "if Muslim brotherhood and planet of the apes had a baby=vj"

After that, the network said "f*** it, we're out this nonsense", and cancelled the show. They knew there was no way they could spin this positively, and cut their losses.

And it's not like they were blindsided by her behavior--she's been problematic for years, and they still brought her show back because they saw dollar signs by riding that nostalgic wave.

To see it from the Arab's perspective? I have a lot of arab friends (I work in Dearborn, largest Arab community next to the middle east) and they all seemed to praise it?

It looks like several people were quitting anyway.

Wanda Sykes announced that she wasn't returning to the show even before the announcement that it had been cancelled.

I didn't think it would be that bad when I first saw this news. But then I looked at the Tweet and it was pretty blatant lol.

The comment was pretty bad. It might have been enough to get the show cancelled but this is after a long history of questionable behavior from her so that was likely also a factor.

Im not too fond of her but I love the show. Its a real disappointment.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but in the '80s there was a sitcom called Valerie starring Valerie Harper (A sitcom actress from the 1970s, for those who don't know), and a young Jason Bateman. When she made demands to NBC for more money after the first season, they fired her, brought another actress to play her sister, and renamed it The Hogan Family. It ran for a number of years after that.

If ABC wanted to be real messy, they could always kill her character off and re-brand the show as "The Conners", or something like that.

Why not have her do one last episode and have her character die of a sudden heart attack or her leg surgery gone wrong.

And then have Darlene/Jackie take over the show. This show has way too many memories, but I guess that is the price to pay for racist rants.

1) That tweet was dumb and ABC made the right call.

2) I honestly don't think Roseanne is racist. This, however, is the kind of terrible stuff that happens when you try too hard to be edgy and anti-PC.

3) I don't understand why she still supports Trump.

Seems like another repeat of when the guys yanked every Bill Cosby show from TVs because of the sex abuse allegations.

A pity because I was enjoying the new show.

good riddance Disney and ABc made the right choice in getting rid of this show.

This story was the highlight of my day. That's a bit sad perhaps, but the meltdown on from the right wing has been fun to watch. Meanwhile they forgot that Roseanne's character use to be a pro-choice, pro-union, feminist liberal. But forget all that because she had a few episodes of being the exact opposite of that and Republicans feel they have to support one of their own.
