In White Plains - New York, a 68 year old retired U.S. Marine was shot dead in his own home by police officers. His medical alert bracelet accidentally signaled, and alerted police that he was in danger. When the police arrived at his home, he informed them that it was a false alarm and that he was okay, but they insisted that he open the door. After a while, they broke the door down, a few events transpired, and they fatally shot him. During the incident, the officers shouted the N-Word in reference to the retired Marine. You can read about the story here.

If what's reported is true, then it's sad but justified. They got an alert then refused to open the door, then reportedly pulled a knife on the officers. They even first used the taser.

Same thing happened to Jose Guerena last year. He was a former Marine and Iraq war veteran. He was shot sixty something times by a SWAT team in his own house.

Based on these facts, I agree with you. However, I'm still disturbed by their use of the N-Word.

Agreed. I'm just tired of every time something happens to someone who happens to be black, it's instantly racist and the person was "just an Innocent black person" like they couldn't ever be at fault.

What police department goes from responding to a distress call to kicking the door down, tasing the guy inside, shooting him with beanbags, and then shooting him in the chest with lethal rounds?

A bunch of racist dumbasses who pushed an old man into defending himself. Nothing some simple negotiations couldn't have handled.

Old people are stubbron, but not worthy of bursting into a house for. There is no hint that they had any reason to suspect anything illegal was going on in the house. At least none I can gather from the several articles I've read.

Clear these guys lost their patients with an old man and scared him into triggering a defense mechanism.

If they get a distress call, they have to actually meet with the individual. Someone telling the responders that it's all ok doesn't cut it nor should it. As for what transpired after that, who knows. The guy very well could have been nuts and went at the officers like they are claiming. I wasn't there and neither were you but I find it hard to believe the police ripped his door down just to go in and murder the guy nor lose their cool to the point where they have to use three different methods to get him under control.

Not entirely true. Cops are allowed to break down a door without a warrant if a crime is happening....and I'm not sure if an emergency signal would allow that so I'm not commenting on this particular case. But you're wrong that it always requires a warrant.

I understand they have to meet with the guy, but if there were no prior incidents with the guy and he had no record (none which have come out yet), they could have easily used other methods to get the guy's cooperation.

According to the account it happened all under 1 hour. That's not a lot of time. They had all of the time in the world to exploit other options. The fact they didn't is pathetic.

"You also hear the operators from the LifeAid company call the police station and say that they want to cancel the call, Mr. Chamberlain is OK. And at one point you hear the officer there at their central office say, 'We're not canceling anything.' They say, 'Call his son. Contact his son.' And they say, 'We're not contacting anyone. We don't need any mediators.'"

If you don't respond to the life alert intercom they will come and break in your house to see if you're down.If you respond and say it was accidental they aren't suppose to come, its that simple

Not entirely true. Cops are allowed to break down a door without a warrant if a crime is happening....and I'm not sure if an emergency signal would allow that so I'm not commenting on this particular case. But you're wrong that it always requires a warrant.

They would still need a warrant, lol.

No they don't. If a crime is in progress a cop does NOT need to wait for a warrant. As for the emergency situation I've already said I'm unsure of that particular answer.

What police department goes from responding to a distress call to kicking the door down, tasing the guy inside, shooting him with beanbags, and then shooting him in the chest with lethal rounds?...

If they get a distress call, they have to actually meet with the individual. Someone telling the responders that it's all ok doesn't cut it nor should it. As for what transpired after that, who knows. The guy very well could have been nuts and went at the officers like they are claiming. I wasn't there and neither were you but I find it hard to believe the police ripped his door down just to go in and murder the guy.

So if you call the 911 (whice these alert things do) and someone who broke into your house is telling them that it's all OK and they can go, you'd want to the police to just dick around for hours before they made their way in?

The whole entering the apartment without a warrent also is cause for concern.

Last I checked, it's illegal for cops to bust down doors like that.

Did they have any reason to believe that somebody had broke into his house? Probably not.

That's one hell of a streatch in this case.

Face it, some people are racist idiots with short tempers.
