Here, Watch Begotten
Yi Yi was the last great film I watched.

Did the film require a second try? Or did you like it the first time?
I remember it took me three tries to finally like it a lot -- I'm glad I made that decision. The film is really rewarding after every view.

I loved it the first time I saw it (just recently). But I agree with what your saying, It really seems like a film that gets better with repeated viewings, I wasn't so surprised that I liked it but rather surprised to find myself completly drawn into everything going on onscreen. I know I can't pretend to totally understand the film after on eviewing but I don't think I need another one to tell this is a masterpiece and a fantastic meditation on life. I cannot wait to see it again and it's probably my second favorite film of the decade. So thanks for always talking about it that definatly got me to just bite the bullet and pick it up.
Se7en is a great film but nobody I know seems to have heard of it.The_One_WhiteAnd yes that is a good movie.. Very suspenseful.
"Visitor Q" by Takashi Miike.foxhound_foxThat movie is crazy. A bunch of friends and I showed it to our Media Studies teacher, she couldn't find heads and tails in it.
Pretty much all of those are famous, very-well known movies. :PSome good ones that may have flown under your radar:
Dead Man
The Big Lebowski
Memento
11:14
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (famous but maybe not for the younger crowd)
Apocalypse Now (same as above)
Clerks/Mallrats
Instinct
Reservior Dogs
Once Upon A Time In America
Before the Devil Knows Your Dead
Bulworth
Good Will Hunting
Run Lola Run
The Professional
Young Guns/Young Guns 2 (I'm not sure if these are popular)
Anything by David Lynch

Babel - four stories of different families that connect with each other. Similiar concept to Crash but better.Thorpe89
Amores perros follows this same concept. An earlier work from the same director, but imo a much better film.
Id also recommend any of Kubrick's films from Paths of Glory to Eyes Wide Shut. Pi is pretty decent, it from the same director of Requiem. Gaspar Noe's films, I Stand Alone and Irreversible are very good but are some of the more disturbing films out there. Definitely not for you sensitive and meek types.
Eraserhead
Stanley Kubrick said it was probably his favorite film. It's David Lynch's first film and basically **** with your mind. Everyone should see this film, though I know most people will say they hate it. It pretty much changed how I felt about movies.
Its funny how my choices were criticised and yet i get no response as to why they were supposedly "bad". Anywho, as someone else said Mystic River - great movie. biggest_loser
I found Kenny funny, but it's not something I would watch again.
Pan's Labyrinth I also found very overrated - I can't see why people I knew raved about it. On the other hand I enjoyed Stickmen (a film about 3 New Zealand mates playing pool) and they didn't.
Falling Down was great showing Michael Douglas flip out
Night Watch / Day Watch - a dark Russian tale based on the books in an epic battle between the forces of good and evil (light and dark)

Can't go too wrong with Lynch... well, except Dune...
I'll recommend some films from this year :
Waltz With Bashir
Hunger
Gomorrah
4 Months 3 weeks and 2 Days
On a side comment, I see a lot of people recommending things pretty much everyone has seen.

....and that film sequel to Twin Peaks [QUOTE="gbpman630"]....and that film sequel to Twin Peaks :cry:Samwel_X
I thought Fire Walk with Me was okay... not his best, but certainly not in the Dune league :P
I feel the opposite. I thought Dune was okay, but thought FWWM sucked. But at least we can agree that those are his two worst. Please Log In to post.
