video http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/08/us/ray-rice-new-video/.

Wow! I just saw the video, and at first I took the wrong side because lack of evidence, and she may have been drunk, but MAN was I WRONG! Shame on him! He could have killed her the way she hit her head. What a coward! Men should never hit a woman, maybe in self defense, but never ever strike a woman out of anger. He is a professional athlete, who trains his body for top physical strength, and performance. He should be in jail.

Getting spit on can push most over the edge. Hell I know many who would rather get punched than spit on for whatever reason. Just something of the act itself that can drive some into a rage. Hard for me to look at this the same as if she had just cussed at him or shoved him.

Also you better edit and actually ask a question if that's the type of thread presented if you want it to stick around.

Nobody should hit anybody except in self-defense. Being a man or a woman makes no difference. But yeah, that guy is an asshole...he punches her once, she still comes at him, he punches her again, she hits her head on the elevator rail, gets knocked unconscious, he drags her out of the elevator, leaves her on the floor face down, pokes her a few times with his foot...Although she seems quite the bitch herself...somebody else tries to help her get up (and maybe make sure the asshole wouldn't drag her away) and she slaps his arm and starts yelling at him...

Calm down there champ. This is none of your business and self defense is always valid.

Why isn't it his business? Shouldn't people be shamed and judged for their behavior?

No. It's not a private family matter. It's criminal.....which is a society matter.

A private matter should not take place in an elevator; a situation like this should not take place anywhere.

Private family matter? He assaulted her in an elevator of a casino. Even if it was at home, assault and spousal abuse are serious matters.

Anyway, Rice is a fucking idiot especially from his comments about this "Ray Rice: "I won't call myself a failure. Failure is not getting knocked down. It's not getting up."

just wow

She weighed the options of taking some hits or going back to being a regular person with regular things and regular income and made her decision.

He shouldn't have hit her but I think the leagues punishment is ridiculous. There are people in the league who drunk behind a wheel and murdered someone and they're playing games this Sunday. No punch to anyone is worse than killing someone. That's crazy talk. Ray Rice should have gotten 6 games like the new rules say a first offender should get.

True, but this has intent behind it...nobody gets drunk in hopes to run over a stranger (don't get me wrong, I think driving while drunk is terrible!)

The difference is the video. The public outrage is about the video. The NFL reaction this week is about the video. The protest and clusterfuck it would occur outside of M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore tomorrow night [if Rice had been reinstated by the team] would completely overshadow the game and it would transcended the sport [it already has] to be covered live by MSNBC, CNN and Fox News and CBS Sports would had no option but acknowledge the situation during its broadcast.

The video guys. The video.

So edgy.

Anyway, it was pretty disturbing how Rice just dragged his wife like a piece of trash. Makes one think that this is not the first time this happened.

He sounds more butthurt/jealous than anything. Saying they got a free ride for chasing balls/tackling men is stupid. Making a NFL roster isn't easy. Also calling the woman a ratchet whore is beyond stupid. You don't know her.

No. It's a private family matter and criminal. Also, still none of your business. Ray Rice was a dude with a job, he is not a role model and should never have been viewed as such. I have been through such things, it's not your business.

We don't have to know them personally. What we do know is that he beat the shit out of her. We know this because there's a video and it's not ambiguous. It's a criminal act and that makes it society's problem.

Abuse is NOT a private matter. And wow at thinking because it's family it should be allowed to continue. Dude it's 2014....not 1614.

It is definitely not a private matter unless the partner, or person doing the abuse wants it that way. It IS my business because it happened in a public place, casino elevator. If it was private, maybe he should have gone home, and beat her privately. Would that have been better for you? Ray Rice was a role model, and no longer is one you are correct about that, but he is in the public eye making him a role model to 1000s of kids wanting to be an NFL star. All players / Athletes are viewed that way, and always have. What hole have you been living in? So if you have been through such things why are you telling me? Making it my business, and the internets? Walking Ghost no one should be abused this way publicly, or privately. If someone is being abused, or hurt it is your right as a human being to stand up for that person, if they are not strong enough to fight. if not you may as well be abusing the person. I disagree this is a private family matter as you can see he will always get the last word. How else would a family seek help if this was only a private family matter?

If your reaction to something as harmless as another human's saliva, especially someone far inferior to you physically, is to punch them with all of your force, you need to reevaluate your ability to control your emotions. In no way was that a reasonable reaction to being spat upon, no matter how disrespected you feel.

You're no kind of man if you strike a woman with that much force over something as insignificant as being disrespected.

Did you guys watch the same video as I did? What I saw was HIM spitting on HER, not the other way around. He spits on her, she "slaps" him on the mouth for it on the way to the elevator and once they get in all hell breaks loose.

Once you cross the line from "private family" moments into criminal behavior in a public place, it stops being a private matter. Hell, once you cross the line to violent, criminal behavior it becomes a pubic concern.

I watched it once, but I wasn't paying close attention to the fine details. All I was watching for was to see if there was anything she did that might have shed light on the severity of his reaction. I mean, if she had attacked him like a wild, cornered animal, his actions would have made more sense, but it was nothing like that clearly.

Nor should a man hit another man (or a woman another woman, hell if we want to talk domestic violence, it is actually more common in same-sex relationships than in man-woman relationships).

This is a pretty one sided issue. If you ever defend domestic abuse then you're a prick.

If your reaction to something as harmless as another human's saliva, especially someone far inferior to you physically, is to punch them with all of your force, you need to reevaluate your ability to control your emotions. In no way was that a reasonable reaction to being spat upon, no matter how disrespected you feel after being spat on.

This was the point actually. We all saw him spit on her and she physically reacted. The poster you quoted with me was the catch to the bait. Spitting in most cases causes a violent physical reaction in the context of the video. However there seems to be this idea that because you can get your ass entirely kicked by the person you assault/attack/spit on you should be relatively safe from such retaliation.

I say no. Less it's a small kid in which case you just launch a fist at their parents you should put even MORE strength behind the retaliation. If that lesser strength person wants to be angry with you let them use words. Obviously if they attack you physically which includes spitting then they've either lost their mind or whatever else you wish to call it. Best to remind them.

Also I am unsure which hit her harder. The "uppercut" or the metal railing she smacked her head on.

Calm down there champ. This is none of your business and self defense is always valid.

Why isn't it his business? Shouldn't people be shamed and judged for their behavior?

We don't know them and never will, also it's a private family matter.

It's not getting up."

just wow

He's not exactly brilliant is he? She's been supporting him. I wonder if it's for the money or if she really does love him?

It has to be for the money. How could any woman love someone who could do that to them? Although, the fact that they have kids probably has more to do with it.

Is it just me or is Rice getting punished a lot less than Donald Sterling when all Sterling did was make a comment in private that was recorded and leaked? Not fair.

Definitely the metal rail...the way her neck twisted when she hit the rail made me think she had broken it...the punch looked quite strong (especially for her small frame) but after the initial impact it was mostly "pushing" but when she hit the rail her entire head just bounced back.

Video should of ended with them uppercutting each other and both hitting the rail. Outside of some humor given how things had, have, and seem to continue to turn out from this utterly stupid spectacle I think we can still only infer one thing. They both are angry people who can't hold their alcohol well.

Well in 1981, Donald Sterling paid $12.5m for the Clippers. Steve Ballmer paid $2B for the team. At 27 and playing RB, Ray Rice may never get a NFL contract again.

Mr. Sterling comments got him a huge pay day for his actions while Ray Rice could be finished at 27.

So who really got punished more?

You should read up the psychology of an abused individual.

So I heard an update that his wife actually forgave him, really? After that? Man, she must really love that money!

Forgave him? They were engaged at the time and now they're married! =P

Who is in the league who murdered someone while driving drunk?

@PurpleMan5000: Donte Stallworth murdered someone in 2009, was convicted, pleaded out and was suspended for a season. Leonard Little murdered a mother and got an 8-game suspension. These guys have retired now but they we're playing under Roger Giddell's reign.
