We set off thousands upon thousands of tons of fireworks in celebration of our country every year. I'd say that alone makes us #1.

Probably because there are also Americans hell-bent on proving It's superiority. Those Americans I just cannot stand. You know all the ones that're like "God bless America" and "Proud to be American" as if they're better than everyone else

Also, why does not being #1 make your country completely inhospitable? Its still a first world country with a large population, it has problems much like every other country in the world, get over it

I would also like to know this

The formula is News = Fact x Importance

The USA suffers from having a Y-axis that's only half the length of the average Western nation, hence the poor rating in Freedom Of Press.

File:Fact x importance equals ne.jpg

I've seen WAY more people bash America than I have seen praise America. and Saying "God Bless America." and "Proud to be American" isn't thinking you're better than everyone else. I'm proud to be American, but I don't think I'm better than non-Americans. I cannot stand those Europeans who think they are so superior so they trash America every chance they get, that's what I see on this forum.

The only American that will ever appreciate or understand life outside of America is one that has lived outside of America for any length of time.

Europe is the place to be. Ireland, UK, or Continental Western Europe.

It's like people who hate homosexuals and always say "Im cool with em but if they hit on me I'll knock em out". No gay person ever has or will ask you out just like you wont find an over patriotic American you cant find in Europe. In fact America usually has a far better view towards Europe then Europe has of America.

That's only because more people live outside America than inside. More people to bash it. America is full of itself and wants to get involved in the affairs of the rest of the world. I mean, why did america give a crap about the royal wedding? They didn't! They just thought "Hey, something else is going on in the world that isn't American! Lets Americanize it!" Gives us foreigners good reason not to like your country

Like everything, all countries have pros and cons. I've found the US to be a nice place to live. Healthcare is way below sub standard and wages are REALLY low. However where im living is really nice. People are generally friendly, little to no crime and its very stress free compared to other places. Everywhere has its good and bad.

Half of those things are impossible to measure/rank... and mobile phones / inmate population? How are those stats even relevant? Just because a nation has a low inmate population does not mean they have fewer crimes... just fewer people being caught...

As evident by the fact that India is #1. I find it a little hard to believe that India has the fewest criminals in the world.

Why's that? Do you not think of it as largely peaceful nation albeit hampered by terrible poverty and a sickening gap in weath between the rich and poor?

The US harbours 5% of the worlds population and 25% of the worlds prisoners. 1 in 9 black men aged between 20 and 34 are in prison. If that's interpreted as a result of an effecient policing system then that raises other questions about why such a high % of particular demographic are in jail.

But anyway, I'm not having a go - just pointing out. No where's perfect. Life's what you make of it. Taking some kind of mean/median average as to quality of life is meaningless to the average man of the street anyway.
