https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/national-international/pornhub-blocks-access-to-site-in-texas-over-age-verification-law/3489066/

Pornhub and other adult websites have disabled access to their sites in Texas after a recent court ruling upheld the state's new age-verification law.

In a letter posted on its site Thursday, Pornhub deemed the new Texas law ineffective and "dangerous," adding that it will directly impact content creators' ability to distribute their adult content legally.

"While safety and compliance are at the forefront of our mission, providing identification every time you want to visit an adult platform is not an effective solution for protecting users online, and in fact, will put minors and your privacy at risk," the letter read.

This got to upset Texans.. thoughts?

Blocking pr0n sites is completely pointless because there is only 23948237892318794187487 of them.

Being a married man living in Texas who struggles with porn, I am glad to see this headline. I can see this being an issue for others but I am in favor of limitations/deterrents on pornography.

Good luck with that, LOL.

As a certain game reviewer once said; "Smarter and more dedicated people than you have tried to hold back the masturbators, and the masturbators always win, probably 'cos they've all the stamina."

I agree with them, porn needs to be banned off the Internet completely. Also those are not adults on pornhub uploading their art form lul. What pornhub is, is contradicting to what adults are. They need to remove the word adults from them.

That seems impossible to realistically restrict or police the access location of an internet resource either by the gov or by a web site

I think people are missing the point.

Texas was attacking pornography as a bit of puritanical theatre. This is all related to that law they passed that forced people to submit government IDs to pass age verification checks - which is wildly out of line with how the rest of the world uses the internet, and which creates fairly large privacy risks (which, let's face it, someone is definitely going to misuse that data). It was probably unenforceable, it would have no meaningful impact on access to "obscene material", but it sells well to the Christian voters in Texas.

Pornhub's response is slightly clever. It's also political theatre. Now every horny Texan has a good chance to stumble onto their site, and view a message about how their government doesn't want them to beat off. People viewing one of the internet's more popular websites will be frustrated with their state government, and that'll hurt them at the polls.

Now if you all excuse me, I am off to go watch me some Hentai😎

@OmegaBlueUp: it's not only for you. We are basically warranting access to hard porn to teenagers that haven't even had their first sexual experience.

A lot of it is very extreme and can cause physical harm (like fisting and others)

Teenage girls are basically having their first sexual encounters with teenage boys that learn about sex through this videos. So there is a lot of room for unintentional harm.

@nirgal: I get the potential harms, but you can limit those harms through proper sex ed courses (for men and women) and teaching young men to respect women.

If you treat sex as some kind of shameful thing that can never be discussed and can never be depicted anywhere, then yes, you're going to end up with very sheltered and bizarre views about how it should work.

How are we getting unwanted pregnancies, unnecessary poverty and children for the mines if we have proper sex ed among other things?

@Planeforger: I am not for banning all kinds of porn, but it think that sexual acts that cause physical harm to a woman (or a man in case of gay sex) should be limited or outright banned.

There is now reason why we should be teaching teenager to harm girls during sex.

And sex education is not enough to prevent people from trying, though it should be a part of education.

It's not the only porn site that now blocks Utah.

The local governments don't implement these laws to protect children, they do it to set the stage for more ID verification on the internet. They hate not having control over the internet/information. They start with porn because no one will want to object with the risk of being labeled a pervert or accused of not caring about children.

This is stupid and completely goes against the fundamental beliefs (namely "small government") of the GOP.

WTF is the party even doing any more? Blocking freedom of speech, promoting anarchy, anti-Christian values, etc.

Alternative motives abound...

It would certainly do more good than banning porn. Seriously.

That's why you make it a freedom of speech issue instead. This has been done before, and it will be done again.

Where's Larry Flynt when you need him!?

In Hustler Magazine v. Falwell (1988), the Supreme Court invalidated a lower court’s $200,000 damage award and ruled that a public figure cannot recover damages stemming from a satirical attack. The decision demonstrated that the adult entertainment industry is frequently in the vanguard of First Amendment free speech court battles that affect the wider culture. Flynt has also spent much of his time and fortune on exposing hypocrisy among the guardians of public morals.

During the period leading up to the 1998 impeachment attempt against President Bill Clinton for having an extra-marital affair with a White House intern, Flynt offered $1 million to women who would testify to sexual encounters with members of Congress.

This tactic eventually brought about the downfall of Robert L. Livingston, a Republican representative from Louisiana and Speaker-elect of the House of Representatives, who confessed to adulterous affairs and resigned from the House.

BWAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Can't wait to see some politicians exposed now.

You feel this is fair? Namely using your lack of self-control and addiction issues to justify the suppression of freedom of speech?

Sorry not sorry, but that's sort of how this is. Same as going "I'm an alcoholic so I totally support prohibition". I mean, good for you for voting with your own interests in mind, but...damn, kind of selfish and inconsiderate.

Isn't that more education's fault than porn's, though? Be it formal education or learned from parents?

Porn is, for lack of a better term, fantasy. Or perhaps fiction would be a better term?

I enjoy violent video games. I have enjoyed them since childhood. However, I am not a violent person because I was raised on the belief that only in instances of self-defense is violence acceptable (and even then it shouldn't be thought of as a good thing).

My expectations of reality do not line up with my expectations of fantasy, in other words.

Same thing with porn. The problem is parents wanting to hand off the raising of their kids (or lack of) to other agencies, then getting worked up into a moral panic.

@mrbojangles25:

Porn has nothing to do with freedom of speech. It should be banned all together from the internet.

Religions don't cause problems criminals do. A lot of people who follow religion in any sense are good people, criminals no matter what they touch will taint and make anything be bad. Don't ban religion or anything, use it to find the bad people and mock them until their peterangelo is out of their ass. That's what's going on in this world and it's eternal. Porn...I think everyone with a conscience agrees is disturbing and wrong to have out there. If there are people like that than oh well but keep it off the internet.

Banning either religion or pornography is equally ridiculous.

And while I am not a fan of slippery slope arguments, if we ban porn...what's to stop them from banning manga? Or video games? Or alcohol? Or drugs?

We've seen how extreme the courts are these days with their bans on abortion and such. They will do it if it serves their political goals.

Don't be a puppet: this is political maneuvering masquerading as moral panic, and you shouldn't cave to that nonsense.

  • They tried it with communism and they were wrong
  • They tried it with the "war on drugs" and they were wrong then
  • They tried it with violent video games and they were wrong then
  • They tried it with alcohol and they were wrong then
  • And they already tried it with porno (and guess what? They were wrong then).

Perhaps "wrong" is the incorrect term. They failed. They failed each and every time.

Let's stop this nonsense before it starts this time so we don't waste people's time, energy, tax dollars, and freedoms.

All those are separate category's. Just because there are real idiots in this world or a illusion like they are in this world and believe they are in a game and try banning things that a conscience person knows should not be banned it doesn't mean anybody should take in account that they are trying to ban anything. They are stupid beings, don't use them and say because they are banning this and that there are things that should NOT be banned because there ARE things that should be banned. Stupid people exist and that's why laws are made to begin anything.

If you really care about your porn sites, the best recommendation I can give is to start using VPN tools/services such as:

  • NordVPN
  • SurfShark
  • ExpressVPN

Any of those will do fine, but I use SurfShark (not for Porn as you all know I hate porn) and they're good service. If the government is trying to take control of Porn sites, I can see the VPN business booming soon.

  • And they already tried it with porno (and guess what? They were wrong then).

Perhaps "wrong" is the incorrect term. They failed. They failed each and every time.

Let's stop this nonsense before it starts this time so we don't waste people's time, energy, tax dollars, and freedoms.

Banning alcohol has already been tried once. Do you really think they will ever do that again? :P

All those are separate category's. Just because there are real idiots in this world or a illusion like they are in this world and believe they are in a game and try banning things that a conscience person knows should not be banned it doesn't mean anybody should take in account that they are trying to ban anything....

Not really separate. Many bans/prohibitions/etc. stem from a place of moral panic or paranoid overreactions. Calls of "think of the children!?" to "better dead than red" and "do you know where YOUR children are?" harken back to times where fear and emotion, not logic and reason, were used to influence lawmakers into making idiotic, nonsensical choices.

This is yet another move in that direction, and it should be fought.

More importantly since one of the hidden agendas here come from religious zealots who think "oh if people are watching porn, they aren't having kids; and if they aren't having kids, then there won't be enough white Christian soldiers to fight our upcoming great crusade" (yes, this is actually how they think. They are crazy).

...They are stupid beings, don't use them and say because they are banning this and that there are things that should NOT be banned because there ARE things that should be banned. Stupid people exist and that's why laws are made to begin anything.

And who decides what should be banned and should not be banned? You? Who are you to say that? Who am I to say so?

And what do "stupid people" have to do with any of this? Of course there are stupid people; they should be ignored. Think of the average user of whatever it is you want to ban, and base your decision on that. And the average user of porn is not someone who's reality is being distorted by sexual fantasies portrayed on film.

Probably logic. Like for example if abortion exists how can you make it a law that no one is allowed to have a abortion when it was legal before. Like it's some kind of game or a off on switch. No being can remember being in a womb or their actual birth. It's a very early stage in life and it shouldn't be used as a you are killing life excuse when we die anyways and can die at any point in our life.
