Poll ***POLL*** 2017 movies: Which was the best of the bunch? (43 votes)

Baby Driver 5%
Blade Runner 2049 19%
Coco 5%
Dunkirk 9%
Get Out 2%
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 7%
It 0%
Logan 26%
Megan Leavy 0%
Spiderman: Homecoming 2%
Thor: Ragnarok 5%
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri 0%
Wind River 0%
Wonder Woman 5%
OTHER (specify) 16%

I don't think this was the greatest year for movies, but it's safe to say this is a solid bunch. If I left off your favorite please feel free to write it in, love to hear from you. Not easy narrowing it down.

Originally I would say I had the most fun with Guardians, but all these movies are right there with it. Many of them I saw more than once.

I'm going to turn my back on superhero movies and give the edge to Bladerunner 2049. How about you?

I really hate to admit how out of touch I am with the Oscar-fare sort of movies, but I have to believe there's at least one of those out there that's better than all of those. I actually haven't seen half of the ones you listed, but of the ones I have seen I liked Guardians the best. Dunkirk was probably better, won't know until I see it.

Wow that's easy, Baby Driver. It was made so well. It was the only movie that wowed me this year. 2nd palce would probably be Logen. Super hero movies were average this year. Sadly a few movies I had high hopes for didn't deliver, especially Coco and Happy Death Day. Overall an average year IMO.

I have been enjoying this year quite a bit more than last year. I still want to see The Shape of Water, especially.

Right now I would rank my top three picks:

Blade Runner 2049
Coco
Baby Driver

This pretty much. I'm really ok with either one of them but I liked Logan more than I thought I would. Guardians was good too.

I have a feeling either Dunkirk or Wind River will win best picture. Even though Dunkirk was great in iMax, I hope it doesn't win.

Drunkirk. First film since Mad Max I felt that could only be watched in a theater.

@theone86:

Interesting, Lady Bird was good (I'd give it an 8.0) but it wasn't even as good as Three Billboards (8.5) which I also saw this week. I think both lead actresses will have nominations.

I just realized the gay guy in Lady Bird played the son in Three Billboards, a connection. Both movies are worth seeing in my opinion but Lady Bird may appeal more to well....ladies.

I didn't think Lady Bird was good enough to make the big 14 cut.....had I made it the Top 20 I would have put it on.

I hope more votes are forthcoming, we have a solid tie between 2 excellent movies.

The best movie of 2017 is The Shape of Water - by Guillermo del Toro.

then Blade Runner.

I'm so sick of superhero movies regurgitating the same plot the same characters the same shit every time. I wish Marvel & DC would STOP and go back to comics. How many f*ckn AVENGERS can you make? Snoooree....

Haven't seen any of them. That's the one thing I really hate about Netflix, is it isn't getting a lot of the big name dramas, at least not for a while after they're released. I don't see them on Netflix, given the price of theaters I only go to those for something that's better seen on a big screen with movie theater sound, like superhero flicks. I regret not seeing these movies, but the big studios are just way behind the times when it comes to adapting to new technologies.

I certainly had more all around fun with Guardians 2 than any other movie this year. I had to see it twice to reach that conclusion tho.

Logan and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 were pretty great.

Inch it towards Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 kinda drags in the final quarter.

I saw The Shape of Water previews quite often when going to other films, but I didn't realize it had even been released. Must not have hit the local theatres. Too bad.

The Disaster Artist! That movie was funny as fuq and James Franco did an awesome job portraying as Tommy Wiseau as well as his brother Dave Franco as Greg Sestero.

On my list to see....I noticed it got great reviews for a Seth Rogen movie, it is a Seth Rogen movie isn't it?

Anyways, saw Lady Bird again tonight, it actually is quite a good movie.

It's not a Seth Rogen film, it's a James Franco film

Yep! He loved the Room and read the book! He funded the film and got Tommy Wiseau involved. Of course he would invite his buddies like Seth, McBride, and his brother in the film. I kind of felt he made the film for his brother Dave.

But...The Avengers is the closest cinema has ever gotten to the comics. I'm not talking about plot-points, and the MCU doesn't even make it a secret that they change certain story-arks to work for movies, but when you think of it the structural, shared-universe concept is by far the closest we've gotten to the structure of the actual comics.

A lot of people pander that these movies are just becoming the same, but what I'm seeing is how much they're evolving. We're at the cusp of significant changes for comic book movies and the way they'll freely tell creative stories. The MCU is now a soap-opera as they should be, and many characters we've witnessed a decade ago, have taken significant growths and we see their mingling interactions with other characters that develop relationships over time. The MCU is finally not afraid to throw in celestial and alternate reality concepts that the comics have been doing for so long.

If anything, and particularly the MCU, things are really just getting started. All Marvel's gotta do is fix some of their weak points, like establishing a villain that isn't just about destruction. They already did that with Loki, and I think there's good reason why he's a favorite character for many, cause he's actually grown as a villain and an anti-hero - Marvel just needs to flesh out more interesting villain arks like they are doing with Loki and we'll be talking.

They also need to define villains that aren't just one-movie handouts. I.e we can't define Red Skull, Ultron or Ego with just one movie. The definition and impact of certain villains can't just be thrown down with single movies. Loki in contrast, he works so well in the MCU because he's become a major character in it, and he's become a major character not because he was just in one movie but because he's involved in many of them and the overall scheme.

I finally saw The Shape of Water and I would have to say I was very impressed.....it's up there with Logan, Bladerunner, and Guardians 2 as my favorite movie of the year.

Didn't get on my list but should have. For those who haven't seen it, go do it. Michael Shannon and crew are fantastic.

Seen all of the ones mentioned here but the best I've seen was "Night is Short, Walk on Girl". Masaaki Yuasa once again proves he's a genius and the best director working in animation right now.

Movie: Logan

Actor: James McAvoy(Split)

Supporting Actor: PatricK Stewart(Logan)

Visuals: BladeRunner2049

Music: BlackRunner2049

Sound: DunKirk

Clothes/Makeup: Guardians of the Galaxy

But even though the entire planet thinks Logan should win, The Academy will give it to same terrible Indy drama No one has heard of and just happens to release a month before the Oscars LOL

@stuff238:

Probably The Shape of Water, Lady Bird, or 3 Billboards wins best picture....maybe even Dunkirk.

But honestly, there isn't a movie that separates from the rest of the movies in 2017, just alot of good movies and no great ones.

Blade Runner for me. I'm glad they didn't make it into an action movie and kept the slow methodological pace. GotG 2 was fun but I was a little disappointed in the decreased scale. Dunkirk disappointed me because "oh look here comes all six rescue boats". It...I dunno I didn't find It scary at all. Entertaining, just not scary.

Wonder Woman was pretty good but I'm souring on superhero movies in general. Haven't seen Baby Driver yet.
