Well every Sunday morning I wake up to classic episodes of Soul Train and I hear a ton of good music but I'm always super tired and forget who they are.Funk is it's own genre. It is awesome. If you like it, then listen to Funkadelic and Sly and the Family Stone.
I love a lot of the soul / funk bands that played instruments (yes I know Soul Train is a lip-sync show). For example the group S.O.S. was on this passed Sunday and I really liked the song they played.
So what is the official name for this music (involving instruments...not disco) and can you give me some suggestions?
I just love the groovy basslines and the feel of the music.

Honestly I had never heard any Rick James until tonight (well I probably heard some but never realizing it was Rick). I love the song Mary Jane...The beat is just awesome...What is weird is in his lyrics I can pick out where so many rap songs took influence from.... That J-Lo and Ja Rule song really takes from the vibe of this song.... :)
