The power to be role-models and mentors? I would sure hope so.

Once I turned 18 (last December) I dropped out of school and moved out. Haven't talked to my parents since February-ish.

When my sister turned 18, she still had to follow all the rules just like before. Seems logical enough, when you live in someones house, you go by their rules, regardless of age.

They have not always been pleased with some of my decisions, however, them having power over same said decisions stopped the day I moved out, little over 5 years ago.

Yes and no, since I live in their house they have me do chores (fixing things, landscaping, etc.) But I don't mind it, it's helluva lot better than paying rent.

when i had turn 18 my my mom still had some "power" over me, but didnt try to lord over me as much considering i was responsible for my own actions. im 20 now and live with my dad, he treats me as his son as far as talking to me or whatnot, but not telling me when i need to be home or where i can go

They may have somewhat less power over you, but they still have significant power if you are still living in their household.

As long as I'm living with them they still have some sort of power, but they do not tell me what to do or not to do,to be honest they never did, they were trusting me and knew that I won't do something too stupid:D Now I can do whatever I want as long as I call them and tell that for example, I wont be home for the night,so they don't have to worry.

Forgive my english if I made some mistakes:P

I moved out and lived in an apartment with 2 friends when i was 15. Im 27 now and i have only talked to my father 1 time in over a decade. Havent talked to my mother in probably 5 years or more. They sucked as parents and didnt even have control over me when i was still living there. Im glad to be done with them.

As long as I lived in their house they maintained some control, although it was decreasing... but I couldn't invite whoever whenever, I had to ask/make sure they knew before hand...

Since I moved out over a year ago, we've had little contact and they've pretty much stopped caring... of course we ta once in a while and I know they still judge/care about my actions, but they don't bother me...

I respect both of my parents, and so they do influence my choices, but in a positive way. But I make my own decisions, so no, they don't have direct control over me. They're just good role models.

29 year old. I would't say my parents have 'power' over me but they certainly do have influence and I listen intently to whatever they have to say. It's great because although I solicit and they freely give advice they usually end it with 'do what you want'. And mean it. Works out well for all involved.

when ever i visit my parents i keep in mind to be respectful ( no cursing and the like). I do know plenty of ppl who do use profanity, scratch their crotch, smoke, drink and argue with their parents....it baffles me. they are the only 2 ppl in the world where that type of respect comes naturally from me.

No, I've been on my own since I was 16.

Me and my parents are really close but they know that I'm independant and not subject to orders.

A little. I mean more or less its generally just common sense and just out of being a little responsible that I say...hey, going so and so be back at whatever time. Or I am going to work and then after to someones house for dinner so I wont be having dinner at home. Its just common courtesy so they know where I am, or so they are not expecting me for dinner at 6 and I never show up and they make how much ever amount. Thats called just not being an ass.

I'm 21 and a senior in college. As portaining to the question it's hard to tell whether my parents have control over me. I visit them when I want, talk to them when I want, see them when I want. I live about 4 hours from them but still listen to what they say. They haven't had to tell me not to do something... in a long long time as I'm not do not get into any type of trouble.

One may say my parents have control over me as they pay for my cell phone, car insurance, and give me some spending money largely for gas. They give me those things but that doesn't mean they tell me what to do with my life.
