Quoting looks like utter shit...............
You are the most negative person I've met on GS and with the foulest mouth.
not really. he at least took the time to check out the new site.
there are several users, who left upon first hearing about the site change.
and i agree, the forums look like shit.
doesnt mean im not gonna still post here, just means i dont like how it looks.
Sweet Zombie Jesus.
It won't even let me vote in the damn poll (My answer is totally 'old site').
Every other link I click on just takes me back to the damn homepage. Arrrgh.
I came here trying to find a review for a DS game. Finally found where they were hiding - managed to navigate the bullshitty search options, and then it just kept flicking me back to the homepage.
To sum up: Not a huge fan of the visual design, but I feel like it could grow on me. Really hating the bugs. Not loving the way the search filter is set out for older systems. And it's so much slower to load than the old site.
You know what can be a fun thing to do on a rainy day? Getting your shit together and end-to-end testing your new product before releasing it to the public...
What's the go with the new video full screen mode. It's not full screen it's only web page full screen. Not happy at all.
Old was miles better, this is hard to see and navigate!
If it isn't broke don't fix it, FFS websites why can't you just follow this dam simple rule. Herp derp the website needs redesigning even though its perfectly fine, just because its been like this for a while.
It's 100% better on mobile than the old site, I do like the look if it but there can be a lot of little improvements that would make it so much better.
I think all that junk to the right of the posting section should've been put in a (second) menu at the top or bottom of the page. Anywhere but the side. The posting section should've taken up the whole width of the page/screen. Look how much space is wasted after you scroll down past that junk.
Also.....
Not enough characters allotted for the Avatar. If the posting section ran the width of the page there can be more room made for longer avatar names. As it is now, I'm jun_aka_p...
I will give it more time before jumping to conclusions.
As far as the forums are concerned, some issues I have:
1. Quoting sucks. I don't know if it was intentionally done to prevent chain-quoting (i.e. quoting more than twice, or multiple people, etc), but it does not seem to work.
2. The general layout does not have enough separation between individual posts; it just seems like one long continues rant, even if by multiple users. If they added some darker lines between posts, or something to break up the continuity of multiple posts, it would be less straining.
3. Appears to be much, much, much slower.
4. Again, still feeling it out, but is there any way to get my black background back? I do not like the white.
5. Navigating one's forum history is a bit odd. I don't need to read my entire last post, I just need a link to the thread.
Overall, the changes seem pretty pointless but as they are new and I have yet to spend a lot of time, I will not jump to any final conclusions.
6. Oh, it also thinks anything italicized is misspelled.
Hate it.
I used Gamespot to manage my game collection of over 200 games. The new site has converted 'games I own' into 'stacks'. Unordered stacks.
The 'games I own' are now a random ordered list that uses a manual method to sort the games - I can't sort by name, or by rating, or by type. I can't see at a glance the score of the game either...
I really relied on the games I own feature of the old gamespot to manage my games... and if it is not fixed I will leave...
.
It's just slower. Certainly hope they'll keep improving, cause it doesn't seem the beta helped that much.
Not ideal for widescreen once again and where is the option fro a dark background?
The option is on the upper right side.
As for the widescreen, try using the style I made:
http://userstyles.org/styles/93915/center-gamespot-forums
I'm assuming the dark text in the quick reply box is a glitch. It was white before, wasn't it? Did I imagine that?
Either way, it sucks.
'New site'
Yesterday, i would have said 'old site', but i'm getting used to it. It's slower and some things i loved simply disapeared, but i think that overall it's better. Love the layout design, the animations, the settings menu is alot less complicated, the user page is alot better, etc...
Q: Did our scores (not reviews, just games we rated) disappear?
Prefer the new site, the old one was getting outdated. The new site will mature and improve with time, I have faith in it ;)
I can't even vote. Errors. I am getting certification errors every page. It's slow, and ugly to look at, and hard to read. I think GS just lost lot of its posters here in OT.
Site is coming along I kind of like it. I took a vacation from the site after the previous change. But with the new tech Im coming back., Yea I miss the old days.. But I still have my memories and of course the tons of sigs i made lol Ill miss my old user board but oh well suck it up. It is A little slow but it will speed up. Glitches have to be tweaked etc.
Old site.
The drop down login box was more convenient.
The displayed boards seems to have been reduced.
The post number in a thread is on the far right, the old one had the page number right under the thread title which was so much better also there was an indicator for hot topics or not. I have to look to the right each time thanks to that.
Lastly, why is everyone professor Layton?
edit: My username is displayed as notsoawes... that never happened with the old version. How annoying.

And he's making a complaint that doesnt make sense... the quoting system looks pretty much the same...

well shit.
coulda sworn that didnt say "quoting" when i posted that=P
i still stand by most of my post though.
I voted new. Although the the site is super god damn slow right now, they're still cleaning out the bugs.
Complaining about the new gamespot is like complaining about Facebook updates. Complain all you want, but you're going to get used to it.
Overall I'm fairly positive on the new layout. Since it's like a new v1.0 I will give it some time to improve before I can say for sure whether it's better or worse than the old site. I did find the old site pretty terrible though.
Old site of course. This new layout is utter s***! My profile page looks rubbish. Where's the section of latest forum posts which was easy to see and use before; there's no section to see my latest game rating in order like before. And why the hell have I been restricted to rating games as whole numbers? There's no need for this pathetic change, especially when it doesn't improve on anything. Absolutely ridiculous.
What the hell is this? I want to see the latest PC releases! What is this? 2007 then jumps on 2013 goes back to 2011, I love how they organized the dates. Ugh makes me want to punch my screen, where is my good ol' latest releases where I can go back one week or go forward see all the games? UGH !
Well if nothing else GameSpot is making good and bad changes. Layout is a little weird at the moment but what will certainly keep me coming back is the 2 review system. I'm hoping it will be like Ebert and Roeper to a degree.
I am a professional UI/UX Designer and I am not sure for the redesign. The other site was easy to navigate and functioned great. It makes so sense to change something that worked well. The design is fine as far as aesthetics go, but the user experience is bad bad bad.
/disappointed
The old design was what kept me in this site and the older one was even better. I hated other sites precisely because they had everything thrown on the main page in a chaotic, non descriptive way. I don't like words like "innovative", "modern" because the only thing they say to me in gaming and gaming sites is - "i don't know my *hit, i am afraid to not follow the trend and i hope you will fall for this marketing gimmick, so we can (step by step) introduce even more shit to your life, that you don't need, or care for, but will learn to love.
In short, the new design is ****. Getting the hell out of here.
@Chow_Mein_Kampf:
I hate the white backboard, why can't i change it back to black ?
You can, just click on the "A " in the top right corner next to the youtube link. Although I don't know how to change it permanently like on the old site. :(
Is there a way?
