This is completely unprofessional and has no place in a military base, let alone a military base in a warzone.

WTF? This has gotten ridiculous. Nothing says world's most powerful military quite like a rainbow flag...

They are now. The reason they weren't was the same reason blacks used to be not allowed in the military.

That flag-pole seems the portable kind just hapazardly resting there. Seems to be a part of a pile-up of equipment. I don't think it had any flag on before.

Even if not, in a military setting- a unit flag would be more common than the american one.

So?

Soliders do stupid crap all of the time in military bases, you just never hear about it. It's not like it was raised at a checkpoint or over a US flag.

Making a big deal out of nothing, that's all this is. Gays can serve openly now, deal with it.

Because it's not a standard flag pole. The poles for the flag are usually next the HQ and are much taller. Not some tiny 12 foot pole next to a tent.

And the guy is clearly holding it up for support. It looks like it was only there for a photo capture.

I find it odd that the page is titled Gay Pride Flags Raised Over US Bases", and then it's just one guy who did it and his wife posted it on facebook. This is news?

The article that page links to states "these displays are an uncomfortable reminder of the open policy that few of the troops support", yet there's no mention of any other incident.

Sounds like homophobes trying to get people riled up.

Is it really that unlikely they had a spare pole lying around some where? It looks kinda rusty and is up at an angle.

I'm not sure that "base" is that large to keep spare flag poles around. Either way, the article said the rainbow flag was in place of the US flag.

Funny thing is, Pirate700 is so skeptical about hate crime victims.

But when an obviously bias and fallible article is jumping to conclusions, he doesn't hesitate to make a leap.

It's not possible they didn't keep a spare pole. Spare poles and other decoration materials are everywhere. When you need to raise a portable tentcamp (for a week of field exercise EG), one of the first things you do is erect unit signs.

Actually we keep many poles on our bases. They are not used only for the U.S. flag. Nato flags are also put up and flags for specific departments.

Fair enough. I still don't think they should be using the military base for their personal agendas though.

Homophobes (aka closet homosexuals) are uncomfortable around men who might want to have sex with them. Makes me wonder how women could be comfortable in the military...

Two things. First: Who cares? How does this impact the military at all? If it were any other flag (besides the confederate possibly) no one would care.

Second: Fox News (Or at least the person who put this "article" up) shows its Anti-Obama propaganda, by mentioning that he was showing his agenda through this. Is there ANY proof that, beside repealing DADT, that this was part of his "agenda" in ANY way? If so, I'll retract this statement. (Talking about this statement: "The Obama administration doesn't typically run its agenda up the flagpole, but at a military base in Afghanistan, the soldiers did it for them."

(also, inherent bias within article with the Family Research Council)

What agenda? It looks like all he did was hold a flag up for a min to take a photo for his wife. If anything has an agenda, it's this article. What are they doing scanning facebook pages for news?
