I was going to say The Road. :P Hmmm, Dead Man was really quite dismal, but definitely one of my favorites.

I felt like crap after watching Requiem for a Dream and Hard Candy. The first for what happens to the characters on screen, the second for what happens to the viewer watching the film.

Depressing yes. But I wouldn't say that if you didnt cry, you have no soul. My psychology class in high school watched it. No one cried.

Finally. Some of these name drops don't make sense to me. So The Wrestler and even more so Big Fan (same makers). some of my all time favorite movies, as they portray a grim reality for most viewers. It's really hard to watch

That film made me laugh more than depress me... P.S I love you gets me every time, even if it's a bad film, and a bad book. Moulin Rouge can get me at a bad time, if I'm already depressed the day I watch it. The Lion King is an obvious choice.. The Notebook is an obvious choice, too.

I agree with a lot of movies mentioned here. From time to time I like to watch sad depressing movies.

Brokeback Mountain is also sad and depressing, I felt quite miserable when I left the theater. powerful movie.
