According to this, it was actually a much larger meteor that was shot by an emergency missile and broken up into smaller pieces.

Thats where it hit. Destroyed a factory.

Depending on how large that asteroid was.... Russia might have saved humanity. But, again, depends on how large it was.

from my understanding this is not even possible. meteors travel on earth at 120,000 mph. the fastest missles we have travel at 15,000 mph.

Probably saved a few lives if they shot it down, but definitely not humanity unless it was fvcking ginormous.

I've never seen the fast traveling bright flash kind but I've seen the slow burning kind travel across the sky, burned green. Anyhow, did this one actually impact anything? Did it just airburst?

This was a pretty bad call...

Oh and it says it was the size of an Olympic swimming pool. After it was shot down it must have impacted much smaller. Probably wouldnt have killed humanity, but still....

I haven't read anything about them shooting it down, or it even impacting the Earth. The damage to windows and explosion was the Sonic Boom from it entering the atmosphere.

the astroid that this meteor came from is moving through space at 17,500 mph, i can only imagine how fast this meteor was going on earth and they shot it down.

-Renegade
when I read about this asteroid about a month ago they said it was going to be traveling 17,500 from earth, not 17,500 MPH... now I'm confused, other people are reporting 17500 MPH while others saying 17500 miles above earth... maybe it's both coincidentally, but my guess is there was some sloppy reporting along the way and others spun their story from an inaccuracy

Agreed. Fox News had a segment earlier where they interviewed a family that said the only reason they were able to survive was from Quoting Bible Verses. So Inspirational :roll eyes:

some of the stories are reporting this was part of a meteor shower so this might have been the debris  cloud that was around the big near miss asteroid that was in the news.

i would have thought if it was the swimming pool sized one that hit it would have looked like and had the power of a nuke.

i'm obsessed with watching those crash compilations.

i'm always trying to get information from  them that will help me stay out of crashes lol.

99% of those crashes caught on those dashcams are avoidable.

i bet tons of video was caught from all those  cameras.

Well yeah 99% of them are avoidable, most are because people drive like they're drunk as f*ck which they could well be given Russia's annual consumption of booze. I'm more impressed at how often they manage to survive. I wonder if the Russians really did shoot this down though or if they're just blowing smoke.
