Ok so I was wondering if you guys know any indie/pop?/alternative rock bands that are any good. Usually, I dont listen to much indie not that I dont like it, its just that a different type of alternative rock appeals to me most, but, and I am a little embarassed to admit this, Ive recently been hooked on Ingrid Michaelson and Portugal. The Man (both are new to me) and I want to listen to more. I think what I am looking for is like a cross between a male version of Ingrid Michaelson and Portugal. The Man and something like incubus and or MCR (something harder and moody). Like I said I am new to this type of music.

I remember Cage the Elephant from Pandora. I liked them and then listened to more of their songs and kinda ended up not liking them so much. But you just reminded me of an Artist I have been meaning to look into called La Roux which isnt what I am looking for now but anyways I will look into some of your suggestions now. Thanks

Maybe The Decemberists? Might be more folky than what you're looking for. Great band though.

Yeah, I'll second Local Natives, they're a fun band. A little too hipster at times, but their tunes are groovy.

I personally really like it. So American, Got It All, Sleep Forever, and All Your Light are my personal favorites from the album.

If you like Ingrid's stuff, then you would probably enjoy Feist.

For more indie rock stuff try Phoenixand Vampire Weekend.

What is wrong with them. I think some of Portugal. The Man has some tracks that sound very MCRish. Oh and when I say MCR I dont mean there new style or whatever and take out the singer. Incubus is occasionally psychedelic sounding..

Minus the Bear

YES! I second the recommendation on Minus the Bear. They are a fantastic band..One of my favorites. If you decide to check them out, I recommend starting out with their album "Menos El Oso". My favorite album from them though is probably "Highly Refined Pirates" just for how fun, yet technical their music is on that album (same goes for Menos El Oso). Another good song to check out by them is Drilling :)

I see Doug fairly regularly wandering around downtown, and their sound guy is also a bar tender at the bar my friends and I drink at. I like Boise.:)

Women is a fantastic band. They remind me a bit of Sonic Youth.

For something calmer and folkier, I'd recommend either Smog or Bonnie Prince Billy.

For some more rocky stuff, try some 90's indie rock like Pavement or Make Up.

For more recent stuff, I really like Ariel Pink,Grizzly Bear, Deerhunter, Chad VanGaalen and Fleet Foxes.(I'm seeing them tomorrow night.:))

There was some really good lofi stuff around 2000-2004ish coming from K Records. Check out The Microphonesand Old Time Religion.

I know, I love their upbeat tone of music. Probably my favorite band right now, along with Portugal. The Man :P
