But wouldn't they manipulate the quiz as well?I don't think you're going to get many honest responses, you might have better success linking to that politcal quiz site.

im nowhere. i do not care about politics in the slightest. such a stupid thing to argue overmems_1224
Same here.
Wherever the idea of higher taxes, less spending, cutting military fits.
Socially im liberal though. My morals don't agree with a lot of things, but I believe everybody should be able to make their choice.
Same here. Though, I fear we may be two of the only ones even close to the right. Though, most people just say they are far left to go with the ebb and flow of everyone else when they don't have the slightest, remote clue about politics. Most of the time I'm center-right, but there are a couple things I'm on the far-right with.

In my experience they haven't. If you ask someone whether they're right/left or center right/left they'll almost always answer with center because of the negative stigma of being associated with a political extreme. That, and center in the U.S. is WAY different from center in other western nations. The test fixes the latter problem by establishing a definite center. As to the former problem, it seems to me that when asked about their positions on specific issues people are far less likely to lie in order to appear centrist.

Yes, everyone chooses their political ideology based on how cool it will make them look and no one who disagrees with you has any clue about politics:roll:
I'm democrat, but I try to be moderate about it when I talk about politics because I really do enjoy finding common ground. I find that people are more willing to actually listen when you aren't screaming your beliefs at them (metaphical screaming that is) at the top of your lungs. It just makes them dig deeper in their own political beliefs. It really doesn't allow for any decent sort of conversation to take place.

We're far less alone here than you might think. I do sometimes wonder, though, if people say they're liberal just to fit in with the "intellectual elites" on this board.

I guess I must've missed the point in time when knowledge became a bad thing.

I think he's referring to how some liberals have an attitude of being more well-informed, when they're not, and then carrying a snobbish attitude with it. Although there are some pretty intellectually 1337 libs on this board...[QUOTE="theone86"][QUOTE="airshocker"]

I think he's referring to how some liberals have an attitude of being more well-informed, when they're not, and then carrying a snobbish attitude with itI don't care what his intention was, his implication was that an intellectual elite, one who is well-informed, is necessarily snobbish and thus intellectualism is a bad thing. It's an implication that has become very pervasive, and which I find particularly dispicable.

There's no rule saying you have to be a snob if you're intelligent. Unfortunately a lot of that goes around on this forum.

Someone who thinks they're elite based on their intellect. I thought it was pretty obvious...
I think he means a liberal.
theone86
The term applies to anybody, though I really only see liberals act that way.

That's the implication you make when you level the charge of intellectual elitism being widespread. And I haven't found that to be the case, in fact I could name quite a few conservatives who act plenty snobbish. Regardless, your charge is anecdotal and carries absolutely no substance.

One is not intellectually elite if they're well-informed. One is intellectually elite when they rub their intelligence in other peoples faces.

And "rubbing their intelligence in other people's faces" is a completely subjective determination. If someone comes out and uses faulty facts or poor argumentation, is correcting their facts or argumentation rubbing their faces in it? It certainly seems so, because that's what I see far more often than not.

And I also said some conservatives act that way, but I've found that it's liberals who act that way the most.
You can believe whatever you want, though. :)

And again, I wonder why a conservative would think that liberals act that way the most? Hmmmm...just can't think of a reason.

It is acting like a snob, though. Either way, there's nothing to correct. You're not going to change my opinion.

It couldn't possibly be because he's seen it. No, that's just---no!

No it is not. If I come out and say that the sky is purple then it is not snobbish for someone to correct me, and the fact that you count simple correction as snobbery just shows how faulty your judgement on this issue is.

Yes, but he's not accounting for his own subjectivity.
