All I can say is wow, it was almost like it was staged but I know it wasn't. The guy is obviously abusing drugs either illegal or prescribed. I really enjoy his acting and haven't heard him sing except in his movie about J.Cash but I don't think he is heading down a good road in his life.

Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman.

You could see him tweeking and trippin even behind those shades, I know he is uncomfortable and shy but I just have a felling he will end up like his brother.

Anyone heard him sing? I just hope he gets himself straightened out and doesn't give up acting.

It gives a whole other meaning to just say no.

Yeah, I watched a bit and I feel the same way.

i wouldnt be surprised if he was faking it. after he stuck he gum on lettermans desk, you could see him take it off once he thought the camera wasnt on him. he also stood upright and took off his glasses clark kent style and seemed relatively normal on his walk out.

Why would you post in this thread then? Oh thats riiight... post count.

Ummm...no. Anyone who knows my posting habits would know I do not post just for count. I really do not even care about such things. I was giving an opinion based on the question. And I would not attack you because its not my style, plus i think your a good contributer, but I felt I should state my opinion on why would anyone care about the drug habits for better or worse OF SOMEONE THEY WILL NEVER MEET. Besides,I clicked on the link, I deserve a post no matter what my opinion.

If Phoenix is truly out of movies and becoming anti-establishment, this could be an act of protest. Often times a contract with a studio requires an actor to make appearances and promote a movie. If Joaquin was forced to appear, after having nothing to do with Hollywood, couldn't this have been him saying to his producers, "You want me to promote this thing? Then watch how bad a decision that will be on your part."

Also, Phoenix's transition from movies to hip-hop is being documented for a film by Casey Afflec. Was this just acting and we'll see it again in the context of his documentary?

Finally, after Phoenix got up to leave, he turned around, took off his glasses and said something to Letterman at the very end. I would love to know what that was. Maybe, "Thanks for playing along."

Lol its an act. Hes probably giong to be using clips of the interview for his "documentary" that his brother inlaw is shooting for him. It was hilarious. And on a side note what someone else puts in their body i really couldnt care less unless itw as someone close to me, or they were harming someone else in the act.

Its definitely an act. Notice how Letterman immediately goes into his role before he even really talks to Joaquin and realizes he is messed up.

From what ive heard its an act. A friend has been "documenting" his rise as a musician...yeah. My guess is it is all an act for some sort of messed up mockumentary.

I still think he's only goofing around. Though as to what purpose it serves, I have no idea. Anyway I like when Dave said: "The kid in the front is drunk on warm Pepsi."

Nah, it was probably more along the lines of, "Dude, look at my pupils, I'm tripping BALLS." But seriously, he could have been on something but who knows, at first I thought he was serious, but as the interview goes on you can tell he's playing along. I thought it was hilarious.

Not sure if he was serious, but it was hard to watch nonetheless. Especially those awkward silences. Interventions can't help everybody, unfortunately. I don't think he's wants any help anyway.

Nah, the hair and beard are part of the persona. That's a lot of why it's so obviously an act, imo.

I'd say there's a 50% chance of an Andy Kaufmanesque act going on here. It's pretty good if it's an act.
