Tip to robbers: don't do that s***, because that makes you a horrible person.

Second tip: IF you are going to rob a business, don't pull out a gun. Unless you're talking a "family owned convenience store" situation, then you don't need a gun and brandishing a gun is only going to get you much worse prison time once your ass gets caught. Don't do this stuff at all. But if you're going to do it, the way to do it is to walk up and discreetly tell the person at the counter that it's a robbery and to give you the money. Maybe hand over a note if there are people behind you and you don't want to say anything. Pretty much NOBODY working at a legitimate business is going to play the hero and try to stop you, especially since doing that will not only increase the risk to them but also likely result in them getting fired. Also, whoever is working the cash register probably doesn't care THAT much about the company's money and likely won't be willing to risk their lives to protect it.

It's not the freaking wild west anymore. Stop walking into legitimate establishments and brandishing guns and knives. You don't need those things if you're doing a robbery, you're increasing the risk to yourself by someone freaking out over the gun and reacting inappropriately, and you're guaranteeing a stiffer sentence once you get arrested. Just tell them it's a robbery, let them hand over the money, and then you get to walk out of there without ever having to shoot someone (or getting shot). And sure, that doesn't mean you'll get away with it. Assume you WON'T get away with it. But it's going to look a whole lot better at your trial when you never brandished a weapon.

At a place that I once worked at, someone stole some liquor off the shelves and bolted out the door. The cashier then grabbed a baseball bat that he had brought to work, and then chased the thief out the door. The very first thing that happened (after the thief getting away) was the employee getting immediately fired. That "I'm a badass" thing might fly at some corner bodega, but most businesses will immediately fire anyone who tries to play the hero and subsequently puts peoples' lives at risk just to protect the money in the cash register. The liability they could potentially face if s*** goes bad is FAR worse than whatever any single robber is going to steal.
