I know alot of people will agree and alot won't agree. But listen to my reasons, I feel music is none other than money anymore like I mean just money there is no passion, nothing at all just lifeless, zombie mainstrean b***s**t. Even with the bands I grew up to love, I will admit they have all fell into this big business, make as much money as you can, trap.

I'm a lover of metal and hard trance (I no, weird combo but I grew up with them) . Metal has taken a turn for the worst most bands don't even make it past their 2nd album anymore because their style changes but I believe they do this against their will to make it more ''accessible'' to everyone, therefore more sales and a hell of alot more money. Trance however died long long ago, This is only my opinion now so I don't want sarcastic comments. Please note I'm only going on these 2 genres. Back to the subject at hand. The story with trance nowadays is the same, money money money and no passion or heart for music. It has become pop music for the younger generation just like most music. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying it's fully dead but I do feel alot of it died out a long time ago.

I no I don't propose much cause in the 2 paragraphs I have written, but I have left it to discussion as I can't propose any more reasons at this moment :)

While I do not agree that music is dead, I believe mainstream music has taken a turn for the worse.

I simply don't like this overuse of auto-tune. Among other things. I can enjoy mainstream, I can still enjoy it for what it is, even. But I still liked it better earlier.

It's just you. In the 00s, we had * John Adams' "Doctor Atomic" * Stephen Sondheim's "Road Show" * Monty Python's "Spamalot" * "Urinetown" * The soundtrack to "Super Mario Galaxy" * The soundtrack to the "Lord of the Rings" films * The soundtrack to "Final Fantasy X" * A film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd," And Eric Whitacre, one of the most unique composers of choral music, is still writing.

As someone who listens to Spanish music, it's almost dead. If it weren't for some bachata artists like Aventura and Prince Royce, I would have given up today's music.

The mainstream stuff is terrible but there are still a couple of good bands that are doing there own thing, and doing it well, off the top of my head Foals, The XX (someones DP who just posted above) Enter Shikari, Phoenix. Notable mentions to Lady G, Kanye West and Kid Cudi keeping their respective genres fresh.

No. Lots of good music comes out every year in various genres. Radio music has almost always been garbage (or at least commercialized) to some extent. While I do love classic rock and music from the '50s-'70s as well as jazz and classical, I still manage to find plenty to listen to today. I don't think that music will ever be 'dead.'

music is as good as it ever was, or better, however, the good stuff is pretty unpopular.

Mainstream music is the worst it has ever been though.

There's just so much more music available that it's harder to find what you like. Even though you might not like mainstream music, the majority does, or at least enough that artists cater to those that do. There's alot of groups with lots of talent who aren't in it for the money, you just have to search a little deeper.

Well that really depends on your musical taste, as much as I hate most of todays mainstream music, there are plently of people who seem to like it.

I just feel like you have to look harder for good new music. I usually stick with Classic Rock and Alternative Rock though.

I think it has. I'll occasionally here something good, or cool, but, for the most part, most modern music is crap. Even bands I like are no good anymore and should give up. (I'm looking at you AC/DC.) Like I said, there's the occasional good tune, but it just stinks most of the time.
