Or get their permission. My neighbors have encouraged me to open my windows and play as late as I like. You just need their permission, and it's all good. Much harder if you're in an apartment though.

One of the perks about being mainly a classical musician is that often neighbors don't mind your practicing and some actually enjoy it as they go to sleep. Though, as a classical guitarist I don't make too much noise. When I used to live in a dormitory and practice late, people would come to me and tell me that my playing helped them sleep which in hindsight probably isn't much of a compliment. I don't want people to come see me perform and be put to sleep :D

Living in the dorms was the best free publicity I ever got as a musician. People heard me play, I got my name out, and all of a sudden had students and money from lessons.
