I would help out, but i wouldnt donate money to any organization. Don't wanna sound pessemistic, but i don't know what that money is being used for and I can assure you that a large portion of that money goes to the employees of the organization rather than the actual people in need. Now nothing is wrong with that, its just that i would rather it ALL went to the people.
Personally, I would restrategize the whole business. Now, I'm asuming that im a billionaire. What I find to be the problem with charities is that they try to accomplish too much and by doing so, never really change anything. I would focus my approach alot more. Maybe choose a single country in Africa and chose a single region in that country, and work at helping the people live better lives. I would fun the construction of public schools, hospitals, recreational centres, parks and so on. Also, I would try to establish a place for higher learning, so that maybe one day these people will be able to be their own doctors, scientists, businessmen and so on. Then I would start some businesses in the area. By starting businesses i would encourage people to move there looking for work, and that would allow me to build housing complexes that charge people a fair price for rent. With that in place i oculd build my own stores as a way to recoop the money i spent, and with so many people in that region, I would hope that more companies would see the benefits of investing in the area.
Now this approach targets a small number of people. Sure people in other nations would still be poor and suffering, but atleast with my targeted approach, i will elevate a group of people, albeit a small group, to good living standards unlike charities who try too much and end up improving the living standards of the people by a little, but not enough to be considered "good" living standards. Once i finish with the chosen country, I would move on to another.
