That moment when your mom says video games are useless then goes to watch Dance Moms for 6 hours lolol

Yeah I've always found this kind of stuff funny. "Oh ____ will rot your brain" and then they go and watch reality TV for hours or read gossip magazines, or sit in front of a computer catching up on which Kardashian is doing who.
But no. I'm the asshole for playing video games a couple hours a day.
Now, I won't sit here and and go into a PhD seminar about the virtues of video games, say how they're this enlightening experience, but they do have their benefits: they generally have puzzles of some sort, require critical thinking, help with reflexes, often require reading, generally have compelling stories (sometimes with good morals, sometimes not), and a host of other positives.
But reality TV? That shit is worthless. Maybe it is a good way to study human behavior, but even then I don't think so because people act differently when a camera is in front of them so it's not a true sample of how people act.
Most here can agree how reality shows are a detriment to society as a whole. The entire celebrity craze has gone way too far.
Hypocrites are a problem in politics.
@PSP107: GTA VCS had a cinematic storyline worth watching tho I skipped most cutscenes for GTA V.

That moment when your dad tells you to stop playing with toys but you see him go play cards with his buds.
None of my relatives (even the female ones) complain if we indulge in video games so long as we earn a living (and pay the bills) or get things done at home when we're supposed to. Now, if we started to lapse in our duties, then there will be problems.
My relatives were taught early on that getting things done on time was the easiest way to avoid trouble. But, I've seen other families where the kids really just slack off.
But video games *are* useless. Aside from wasting time, what do they do for the good of humanity?
When you think of a lot of other hobbies, interests and things people do in the their down time all of a sudden video games don't seem so bad.
Sports, drinking, tv, books, drugs... the list could go on...
Why are video games so much worse than those things???
Growing up I always wanted to watch movies with the family, and my parents would always groan and say it's a work night and that they need to go to bed early, then both of them respectively watch their desperate housewives and redneck trailer shows for the next four hours.
But video games *are* useless. Aside from wasting time, what do they do for the good of humanity?
It depends on what type of video games.

@mrbojangles25: "generally have compelling stories "
Videogame stories are beyond awful.
When you generalize you tell general lies.
@bardockdiaper: "When you generalize you tell general lies."
Aren't you doing the same thing!
Yes.At least I admit it.
Hypocrites: Every single person is one at one time or another.
Basically this. It's hard for anyone to reject that.

You just described my mom. When she comes home from work, she just watches reality TV shows about rich white people for the rest of the day. She says that someday she'll be rich like them so it's educational to her. She's what I like to call a temporarily embarrassed millionaire; she'll never win the lottery like she says she will. I'd be surprised if the garbage she watches didn't rot brains faster than video games do.
